Product Engineer (180k-240k + Equity)
Job description
About the role
Conveo is a YC-backed company that entered an active growth period this year, expanding from a small team toward a projected size of approximately one hundred and twenty people by the end of the current year. The company was founded on the principle of building deeply with technology to transform how organizations conduct research and understand their customers. You will report directly to Maarten, who serves as the Chief Technology Officer, and your work will immediately impact the direction and quality of the product. The engineering team is intentionally small, removing layers of process such as dedicated product managers, designer handoffs, and queued tickets, which grants you significant ownership. You are expected to engage directly with the customer problem and own the entire journey from discovery to a deployed, polished piece of software. This role is interesting because it places you at the intersection of technology and product, allowing your decisions to shape what the company builds. You will collaborate in a culture that values deep work, direct communication, and a shared enjoyment of building ambitious products, creating an environment where individual impact is amplified.
Key facts
What you'll do
You will architect and implement user interfaces using React and TypeScript, ensuring a high standard of quality, performance, and state management for the core customer experience.
You will design and maintain robust API contracts and backend services using Node.js, integrating with cloud infrastructure on AWS to support media processing and data pipelines.
You will take ownership of end-to-end feature delivery, guiding a piece of functionality from initial concept through design, implementation, testing, and deployment without relying on separate teams.
You will participate directly in customer interactions, such as interviews and calls, to gather insights and translate qualitative feedback into concrete engineering requirements and product decisions.
You will leverage artificial intelligence tools as a primary instrument for reasoning, code generation, review, and testing to accelerate development and improve code quality across the stack.
You will build and maintain integrations with large language model APIs, applying prompt engineering techniques and designing asynchronous workflows to create reliable AI-powered features.
You will ensure that background jobs and asynchronous processes are resilient and scalable, managing complex workflows that handle media uploads, processing, and data synchronization.
You will collaborate with global brands like Unilever, Google, and Orange to ensure the platform meets rigorous standards for market research and delivers actionable insights.
You will contribute to the technical strategy of the platform, evaluating new frontend frameworks, cloud services, and AI capabilities to maintain a competitive advantage.
You will write clear documentation and maintain internal systems that support the engineering workflow, utilizing AI to reduce overhead and keep the team focused on building.
You will continuously monitor and optimize application performance, reliability, and user experience, identifying opportunities to improve the stability of the research platform.
You will mentor other engineers on best practices for full-stack development, AI integration, and effective communication with non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
You must possess a minimum of six years of professional experience building complete, production-grade applications using TypeScript and Node.js.
You must have a strong background in backend development, including designing robust APIs, working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, and managing complex background jobs and asynchronous workflows.
You must be highly proficient in frontend development with React, demonstrating an understanding of component architecture, state management, and modern performance optimization techniques.
You must have substantial experience with cloud infrastructure, specifically Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform, and be comfortable managing services like S3, media processing pipelines, and deployment tooling.
You must have direct experience building AI-driven applications, including practical skills in prompt engineering, integration with LLM APIs, and potentially fine-tuning models to solve real-world problems.
You must be capable of independently owning projects from initial discovery and ideation through to a polished launch, making decisions that balance user needs, technical constraints, and business goals.
You must communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally, with a strong attention to detail in documentation and code.
You must thrive in a collaborative yet autonomous environment, working effectively within a small, fast-paced team that values ownership and results.
Nice to have
Prior experience with React Router version seven or Remix is viewed favorably.
Having worked at a small, fast-moving SaaS company where you held client-facing responsibilities is preferred.
Exposure to market research platforms or qualitative data collection tooling is considered a bonus.
You have shipped agentic AI systems to production and can discuss failure modes, evaluation strategies, and thoughtful tool design.
Practical notes
