Product Engineer (Antwerp or London, £80k-120k, Equity)

About the role

Conveo represents a YC-backed initiative currently operating within an active growth phase. The company commenced this year with a team of approximately twenty individuals and projects scaling toward roughly one hundred twenty members by the conclusion of the year. Individuals joining during this period encounter a significant opportunity to influence the foundational construction of the organization. The engineering department maintains a deliberately compact structure, intentionally avoiding the presence of product managers, designer handoffs, and queues of tickets awaiting external prioritization. Engineers at Conveo own the complete trajectory from initial customer problem identification through to the deployment of functional software, deriving distinct advantage from direct proximity to the product itself. You will report your direct responsibilities to Maarten, who serves as the company's CTO. The team culture places significant emphasis on the work produced and collaboratively enjoys the process of building together.

What you'll do

You are sought to fulfill the role of a Senior Product Engineer who operates through a foundation of working backwards from the user experience. This involves initiating with the problem encountered by the user rather than a predefined specification, thereby owning the entire scope between that conversation and the eventual shipped code. Your contributions will directly shape product direction through active participation, exerting tangible technical and strategic influence over both what is constructed and the methodology of construction. You will take ownership of the complete stack, encompassing both the interface presented to customers and the underlying infrastructure that supports it. This includes leading the frontend architecture using React and TypeScript, establishing quality benchmarks for components, state management, and performance optimization. Responsibilities extend beyond the user interface to include API design and cloud infrastructure management on AWS, enabling you to deliver complete, refined features from start to finish. This scope incorporates AI-powered capabilities utilizing LLM APIs, prompt engineering practices, and asynchronous processing pipelines.

An essential part of your function involves serving as the engineering voice integrated within customer conversations. When a customer articulates a need, an engineer will hear that need, interpret its implications, and devise an appropriate solution. You will participate in customer calls approximately once weekly, formulate a distinct point of view regarding requirements, translate feedback into scoped product decisions, and ensure follow-through to completion. The role necessitates leveraging AI throughout the entire workflow, reaching for agentic solutions as a primary approach. You will utilize AI to facilitate reasoning, construction, review, and testing at every stage, concurrently elevating the standards for team-wide practices. Documentation overhead is minimized through AI utilization, and you are expected to operate effectively within this paradigm. Maintaining currency regarding the capabilities of frontier models and incorporating those advancements into delivered products remains a key responsibility.

Requirements

The position mandates a minimum of 6 years of experience in building full-stack applications utilizing TypeScript and Node.js. Candidates must possess strong backend expertise, including the design of APIs, proficiency with PostgreSQL, and the management of background jobs and asynchronous workflows. Solid frontend skills using React are required. Experience with cloud infrastructure is essential, specifically within AWS and/or GCP, demonstrating comfort with services such as S3, media pipelines, and deployment tooling. A background in constructing AI-driven applications is advantageous, including prompt engineering, interaction with LLM APIs, and prior fine-tuning experience. The ability to independently lead projects from the conceptual phase through to launch is necessary. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, coupled with a meticulous attention to detail, are mandatory. A collaborative mindset, coupled with the capability to operate autonomously within a small, fast-paced team environment, is required.

Nice to have

Preference is given to candidates with experience using React Router v7 or Remix. Demonstrated experience within a small, fast-moving Software as a Service company where client interaction was a regular component of the role is favored. Exposure to market research or qualitative research tooling is considered a bonus. Prior experience shipping agentic AI systems to production, including the ability to discuss failure modes, evaluation techniques, and tool design, is also preferred.

The role requires availability for 3 days per week in the office, with locations available in London or Antwerp.
