About the role
Convene Hospitality Group is seeking a hands-on technical leader to define the architecture and long-term engineering strategy for our global hospitality platforms. You will bridge the gap between business objectives and technical execution while remaining deeply involved in code, system design, and the adoption of emerging AI technologies. In this role, you will own the technical vision and ensure that our systems can support rapid growth across multiple markets. You will be responsible for making high-impact technical decisions that balance innovation with operational stability. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy turning ambiguous problems into scalable solutions. You will work closely with product leadership to align technology initiatives with business goals. This position requires a leader who is comfortable with both strategic planning and deep technical contribution.

What you'll do
- Architect complex, multi-system application and data platforms that prioritize scalability, observability, and maintainability.
- Manage build versus buy decisions by evaluating third-party vendors and estimating long-term maintenance costs.
- Contribute directly to the codebase, conduct code reviews, and build proofs of concept.
- Establish standards for APIs, data modeling, infrastructure, and deployment patterns.
- Mentor engineering managers and individual contributors to foster a growth-oriented, inclusive culture.
- Integrate AI and new technologies into internal workflows to improve development speed and system quality.
- Define architectural guardrails that allow teams to maintain autonomy while ensuring system interoperability.
- Evaluate and recommend data platforms, including pipeline architecture, dbt, and data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake or Redshift.
- Oversee CI/CD automation, testing, deployment, and rollback strategies to ensure reliable software delivery.
- Lead the design of distributed systems and cloud infrastructure to meet evolving business demands.
- Drive the adoption of modern JavaScript frameworks such as Node.js, React, Express.js, and Next.js.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
- Champion best practices in security, performance, and reliability across all engineering initiatives.
- Guide the integration of emerging technologies to enhance product capabilities and customer experiences.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in designing and building production software systems.
- Mastery of JavaScript, Node.js, React, Express.js, and Next.js.
- Experience designing modern data platforms, including pipeline architecture, dbt, and data warehousing (Snowflake or Redshift).
- Background in managing CI/CD automation, testing, deployment, and rollback strategies.
- Proven track record of evaluating technical vendors and estimating engineering effort for large-scale initiatives.
- Experience leading and developing engineering managers.
- Expertise in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and setting architectural standards across teams.
- Strong understanding of API design, system scalability, and observability practices.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining a focus on long-term goals.
- Willingness to write code, review pull requests, and contribute to hands-on proof of concepts.
- Excellent communication skills to align technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Practical notes
- Total Target
Compensation: $260,000 to $325,000 (OTE).
- Base Salary Range: $200,000 to $250,000.
- Bonus: 30% target annual incentive performance bonus ($60,000 to $75,000).
