Key facts
What you'll do
- Operate and maintain various drilling rigs and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety during operations.
- Conduct site assessments to determine the appropriate drilling methods and techniques based on soil conditions and project specifications.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to develop drilling plans that align with project goals and timelines.
- Collect soil and rock samples during drilling operations, ensuring proper documentation and handling for laboratory analysis.
- Monitor drilling progress and make real-time adjustments to techniques and equipment as necessary to ensure project efficiency.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, conducting regular safety checks and training for team members.
- Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, including depth, sample locations, and any encountered geological features.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation related to drilling activities and findings for project stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during drilling operations, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.
- Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to stay current with industry best practices and advancements in drilling technology.
- Foster a positive team environment by collaborating effectively with colleagues and contributing to a culture of safety and excellence.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders as needed, providing updates on drilling progress and addressing any concerns that may arise.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical drilling or a related field.
- Proficient in operating various types of drilling rigs, including rotary and auger rigs.
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics and geotechnical principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in drilling operations.
- Ability to work in diverse environmental conditions and perform physical tasks associated with drilling.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and overtime as required.
Nice to have
- Experience with advanced drilling techniques, such as sonic or direct push methods.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance related to drilling operations.
- Certifications in safety training, such as OSHA or HAZWOPER.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a drilling team.
- Familiarity with geotechnical software and data analysis tools.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in the use of drilling equipment and tools, including augers, core barrels, and sampling devices.
- Knowledge of soil sampling techniques and laboratory testing procedures.
- Familiarity with GPS and surveying equipment for accurate site assessments.
- Strong organizational skills for maintaining records and documentation.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
