Key facts
What you'll do
- Operate drilling equipment and machinery under the supervision of experienced drillers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational standards.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of drilling rigs, including the transportation of equipment to and from job sites.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections on drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Collaborate with team members to monitor drilling progress and make necessary adjustments to achieve project goals.
- Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, including depth, time, and any encountered geological formations.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to enhance knowledge of best practices and safety regulations.
- Support drillers in the implementation of drilling plans, including the selection of appropriate drilling techniques and tools.
- Engage in physical labor, including lifting heavy equipment and working in various weather conditions, to assist with drilling operations.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to report any issues or concerns that may arise during drilling activities.
- Learn to interpret geological data and assist in the analysis of drilling results for further exploration and development.
- Uphold Conetec's commitment to environmental stewardship by following established protocols for waste disposal and site restoration.
- Contribute to a positive team environment by demonstrating professionalism, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; further education in geology, engineering, or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience in drilling, construction, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory for entry-level positions.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting heavy objects and working outdoors.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to facilitate teamwork and reporting.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methods in the drilling industry.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record; ability to operate heavy machinery is an asset.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by project demands.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting purposes.
Nice to have
- Experience operating drilling rigs or related heavy machinery.
- Certification in First Aid/CPR or other relevant safety training.
- Familiarity with geological terminology and principles.
- Previous experience in a team-oriented environment, demonstrating strong collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations related to drilling and construction activities.
Skills & tools
Candidates should be proficient in using hand tools and basic power tools commonly used in drilling operations. Familiarity with drilling equipment and machinery is advantageous. Additionally, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are essential for success in this role.
Practical notes
This position may require travel to various job sites, which could involve overnight stays. Candidates should be prepared for a physically demanding work environment and should possess the stamina to perform tasks in varying weather conditions. Training will be provided for all necessary equipment and safety protocols.
