Key facts
What you'll do
- Operate drilling rigs and associated equipment in accordance with safety protocols and operational guidelines.
- Assist senior drillers in the setup and maintenance of drilling equipment, ensuring all tools are in optimal working condition.
- Monitor drilling progress and report any issues or irregularities to the lead driller, maintaining clear communication throughout operations.
- Conduct pre-drill inspections and routine maintenance on drilling machinery to prevent downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with team members to execute drilling plans, adhering to project timelines and specifications.
- Maintain a clean and organized worksite, following environmental regulations and company policies.
- Participate in training sessions and safety meetings to enhance skills and knowledge related to drilling operations.
- Support the collection and documentation of geological samples, ensuring accurate reporting and data management.
- Assist in the transportation and setup of drilling equipment at various job sites, which may include remote locations.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to minimize risks and ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
- Engage in continuous learning and development opportunities to progress within the company and the drilling industry.
- Provide support to other team members as needed, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training in drilling or related fields is a plus.
- Previous experience in drilling or construction is preferred but not mandatory for entry-level positions.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and practices in the drilling industry.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including outdoor settings and varying weather conditions.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to facilitate effective teamwork and reporting.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as required by project demands.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills to assist in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
Nice to have
- Certification in First Aid/CPR or other safety training relevant to the drilling industry.
- Experience operating heavy machinery or specialized drilling equipment.
- Knowledge of geological formations and drilling techniques.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and best practices in drilling operations.
- Previous experience in a labor-intensive role, demonstrating reliability and work ethic.
Skills & tools
Candidates should possess a solid foundation in mechanical skills, as well as the ability to operate various tools and equipment used in drilling operations. Familiarity with GPS and other navigation tools is advantageous. Proficiency in basic computer skills for documentation and reporting purposes is also beneficial.
Practical notes
This position may require travel to various job sites, some of which may be in remote locations. Candidates should be prepared for physically demanding work, including lifting heavy equipment and standing for extended periods. The work environment may involve exposure to noise, dust, and other elements typical of outdoor construction sites.
