Marketing Chief of Staff
Job description
About the role
We are hiring a Marketing Chief of Staff to keep Cohere's marketing org moving at full speed without coming apart at the seams. You will report to the VP of Brand and work across the whole function: brand, editorial, design, product marketing, demand generation, and integrated marketing. This is not a strategy-only role, and it isn't a glorified project-management seat either. In any given quarter the org is shipping product launches, field events, partner campaigns, and demand programs in parallel, often across regions and time zones. That pace is the reason the role exists. Your job is to make sure the right work wins when everything feels urgent, that plans turn into shipped work, and that the VP of Brand and the leadership team spend their time leading instead of firefighting. You will own the operating rhythm of the marketing organization, ensuring that execution does not stall when complexity increases. You should want that part, not tolerate it, because the grind is the job.
Key facts
What you'll do
Run the marketing org's planning cadence, owning annual and quarterly planning, goal-setting, and the weekly and monthly business reviews.
Drive budget and headcount planning against the slate, working from Marketing Ops' tracking and reporting, and keep both honest as priorities shift mid-quarter.
Own the trade-off conversations when the slate outruns capacity, turning the VP of Brand's priorities into executable plans for brand, editorial, design, product marketing, and demand generation.
Make the reviews worth holding by driving the preparation, follow-through, and decisions that should come out of them.
Keep major programs from colliding or stalling across teams, spotting conflicts early and preventing breakdowns in cross-functional flow.
Be the person teams come to when it isn't clear who owns a deliverable, unblocking work that is stuck between functions and time zones.
Chase down stuck deliverables without slowing the broader org, stepping into the work when necessary to keep the plan on track.
Use the dashboards and reports built by Marketing Ops to interpret pipeline math, funnel conversion, and budget-to-impact, and push back when the data does not add up.
Partner with Marketing Ops on the MarTech stack, attribution, scoring, routing, data pipelines, and reporting so that the leadership team can rely on what they see.
Write clearly and communicate straight, delivering honest readouts that help the VP of Brand and the leadership team lead instead of firefight.
Requirements
You've run operations inside a fast, high-output B2B marketing org, and you've left it running better than you found it.
You know the specific failure mode of a team that's shipping a lot and losing the thread, and you know how to pull it back without slowing everyone down.
You understand how marketing actually works, at the level of someone who's done it rather than managed it from a distance.
You're fluent in the numbers, including pipeline math, funnel conversion, and budget-to-impact.
You can read a marketing dashboard and tell what's real from what's been dressed up, and you say so.
You hold strategy and execution in the same hand, comfortable moving from planning conversations to chasing down deliverables.
You communicate clearly and directly, building trust through honest readouts rather than polished presentations.
You stay calm when it's messy, turning daily ambiguity into a plan other people can follow.
You respect the boundary between consumption and ownership of systems, relying on Marketing Ops for the MarTech stack, attribution, scoring, routing, data pipelines, and reporting.
You are willing to get into the work when necessary, without confusing doing with owning the operational rhythm.
Practical notes
The role is full-time based in Toronto. There may be international travel required for field events and partner programs. No specific visa sponsorship details are provided in the source material. The pace is intense and requires availability to work across multiple time zones as programs run in parallel globally.
