About the role
You will own the full lifecycle of event-driven microservices from initial design through production deployment and ongoing optimization. This position requires you to build scalable and resilient backend services that directly support enterprise client objectives. You will act as a technical leader within the engineering team, mentoring peers and driving best practices in distributed system design. Your work will involve close collaboration with product and client stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical specifications. You will leverage modern AI tools responsibly to enhance development speed and maintain strict governance standards. This role demands a high level of ownership for code quality, system performance, and operational reliability. You will be a critical decision-maker in selecting architectures that balance innovation with stability.

What you'll do
Architect and develop Spring Boot microservices that adhere to strict team standards and contribute to a scalable codebase.
Design and implement event-driven architectures utilizing publish/subscribe messaging patterns for asynchronous communication.
Orchestrate complex business workflows using saga patterns or orchestration approaches to manage distributed transactions effectively.
Define and consume RESTful endpoints, webhooks, and subscription APIs while actively participating in API contract discussions.
Establish and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to automate testing and deployment processes for cloud-native applications.
Configure infrastructure-as-code solutions to provision and manage cloud resources consistently and efficiently.
Utilize observability platforms such as New Relic, Datadog, and OpenTelemetry to monitor logs, traces, and system metrics.
Troubleshoot intricate issues across distributed services by correlating data from multiple monitoring tools.
Integrate large language models into applications using function calling and structured output techniques to enhance capabilities.
Implement security guardrails to ensure the safe handling of sensitive data within AI-driven workflows.
Contribute to API versioning strategies to ensure backward compatibility and smooth evolution of services.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business goals and client expectations.
Evaluate new technologies and frameworks to determine their applicability to current and future project needs.
Document architectural decisions and service behaviors to support maintenance and knowledge transfer.
Requirements
Possess a minimum of 8 years of professional experience developing backend services using the Java programming language.
Hold at least 2 years of hands-on experience building microservices and event-driven systems in a production environment.
Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Java 17 or higher, including a deep understanding of object-oriented principles and concurrency management.
Showcase extensive experience with the Spring Boot framework and Spring Cloud for building cloud-native applications.
Maintain strong competence in AWS services such as DynamoDB, Kinesis, SQS, SNS, KMS, API Gateway, ECS, EKS, Lambda, IAM, and RDS.
Apply critical judgment when reviewing AI-generated code to ensure quality, security, and maintainability standards.
Write comprehensive tests using JUnit and Mockito to validate business logic and ensure high code coverage.
Commit to a disciplined approach to testing, including integration and end-to-end testing strategies.
Be physically located in the Miami or Fort Lauderdale metropolitan area and able to work on-site full-time.
Commit to a contract-based engagement that requires consistent availability and dedication to project timelines.
Nice to have
Bring experience in financial services or payments domain, including familiarity with ISO 20022 standards.
Understand legacy payments messaging formats such as the FAIM (Fedwire) specifications.
Possess practical skills in containerization using Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
Have hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
Work with workflow and orchestration engines such as Temporal, Camunda, or AWS Step Functions.
Apply advanced AI skills including vector stores, RAG implementations, and prompt engineering techniques.
Understand AI observability practices to monitor and evaluate AI service integrations effectively.
Practical notes
This role requires on-site presence in the Miami / Fort Lauderdale area.
The engagement is structured as a contract position with long-term expectations.
Candidates must be available for 100% on-site work during the contract term.
