Key facts
What you'll do
- Design intake pipelines that convert raw events into structured streams suitable for analytics while maintaining strict data quality standards.
- Architect services on AWS Serverless stacks, specifically leveraging Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, and SNS to build resilient and scalable systems.
- Operate data models using PostgreSQL while integrating optional TimescaleDB for time-series metrics to support advanced analytical queries.
- Build telemetry layers that supply Data Engineering groups with actionable insights under pressure, ensuring timely delivery of critical metrics.
- Review cross-functional designs against strict criteria, challenging assumptions alongside technical stakeholders to validate architectural soundness.
- Ship features through strict operational standards ensuring stability, security, and clear observability across all deployed services.
- Collaborate with international partners to align architecture decisions and remove integration blockers that could delay delivery.
- Maintain autonomy by identifying bottlenecks and proposing scalable fixes before they impact users or degrade performance.
- Implement monitoring and alerting strategies that provide immediate visibility into system health and performance anomalies.
- Optimize existing services for cost efficiency and runtime performance without compromising reliability or data integrity.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications that guide the implementation of backend services.
- Support incident response activities and contribute to post-mortem processes aimed at preventing future disruptions.
- Ensure all code contributions adhere to best practices in version control, testing, and documentation for long-term maintainability.
- Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance on architecture patterns, code reviews, and operational excellence.
Requirements
Bring five years of backend development demonstrating ownership and initiative in complex software projects.
Bring three years of solid experience coding with Node.js and TypeScript to deliver production-grade services that meet enterprise standards.
Bring three years of operating in AWS Serverless environments, managing Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, and SNS reliably in production scenarios.
Bring two years of experience modeling relational data with PostgreSQL and handling basic Data Engineering workflows to support analytical workloads.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of distributed systems principles and how they apply to backend service design.
Show proficiency in writing clean, testable, and efficient code that can be maintained over the lifecycle of the product.
Exhibit the ability to work asynchronously and communicate effectively across different time zones and cultural contexts.
Commit to continuous learning and adapting to new technologies that can improve the platform and team productivity.
Nice to have
Include one year of experience with TimescaleDB or similar time-series stores in live systems to optimize time-based data ingestion and querying.
Include background in IoT or industrial telemetry projects handling real device streams to understand high-volume data ingestion challenges.
Include knowledge of infrastructure as code using Terraform or CDK to automate deployments and ensure environment consistency.
Practical notes
This is a contract position with remote work based from Chile.
The engagement is structured around a 2025 fiscal year with a defined compensation package.
No in-person travel is required for this role.
