What you'll do

• Lead the design and architecture of flight software systems, ensuring they meet the rigorous requirements of space missions.
• Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware engineers, and other stakeholders to define software requirements and specifications.
• Develop and maintain software architecture documentation, including design patterns, interface definitions, and system interactions.
• Implement best practices for software development, including coding standards, version control, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes.
• Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior software engineers, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
• Analyze and resolve software defects and performance issues, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of flight software.
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in software engineering and aerospace technologies, integrating new methodologies and tools into the development process.
• Participate in project planning and estimation, providing insights into technical feasibility and resource requirements.
• Collaborate with testing teams to develop and execute comprehensive test plans, ensuring software meets all functional and performance criteria.

• Support the integration of flight software with ground systems, ensuring communication and data exchange during missions.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software architecture or a related field, preferably within the aerospace or defense industry.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or Java, with a strong understanding of software development methodologies.
• Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded software development.
• Familiarity with software design patterns and architectural frameworks, with the ability to apply them effectively in complex systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of troubleshooting software issues in high-stakes environments.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience with space mission software development, including flight dynamics and control systems.
• Knowledge of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and tools such as SysML or UML.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience working in Agile development environments.
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles as they apply to aerospace software systems.
• Experience with cloud computing platforms and their application in aerospace solutions.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in software development tools such as Git, Jenkins, and JIRA.
• Familiarity with simulation and modeling tools used in aerospace applications.
