What you'll do
- Lead the design and architecture of flight software systems, ensuring they meet the rigorous requirements of space missions.
- Collaborate with systems engineers, hardware engineers, and other stakeholders to define software requirements and specifications.
- Develop and maintain software architecture documentation, including design patterns, interface definitions, and system interactions.
- Implement best practices for software development, including coding standards, version control, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes.
- Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior software engineers, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
- Analyze and resolve software defects and performance issues, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of flight software.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in software engineering and aerospace technologies, integrating new methodologies and tools into the development process.
- Participate in project planning and estimation, providing insights into technical feasibility and resource requirements.
- Collaborate with testing teams to develop and execute comprehensive test plans, ensuring software meets all functional and performance criteria.
- Engage with external partners and stakeholders to align software development efforts with mission objectives and industry standards.
- Contribute to the development of training materials and documentation for end-users and operational teams.
- Support the integration of flight software with ground systems, ensuring communication and data exchange during missions.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in software architecture or a related field, preferably within the aerospace or defense industry.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or Java, with a strong understanding of software development methodologies.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded software development.
- Familiarity with software design patterns and architectural frameworks, with the ability to apply them effectively in complex systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of troubleshooting software issues in high-stakes environments.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
Nice to have
- Experience with space mission software development, including flight dynamics and control systems.
- Knowledge of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and tools such as SysML or UML.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and experience working in Agile development environments.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles as they apply to aerospace software systems.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms and their application in aerospace solutions.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in software development tools such as Git, Jenkins, and JIRA.
- Familiarity with simulation and modeling tools used in aerospace applications.
- Strong understanding of software testing frameworks and methodologies.
- Experience with performance optimization techniques for software running in constrained environments.
