What you'll do

- Participate in training sessions for staff on financial policies and systems, fostering a culture of financial literacy within the organization.
- Assist in the preparation of year-end financial statements and work with external auditors during the audit process.
- Monitor cash flow and assist in cash management activities to ensure the city's financial stability.
- Provide recommendations for process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in financial operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably within a municipal or public sector environment.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, as well as relevant legislation affecting municipal finance.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools, with experience in ERP systems being a significant advantage.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with various stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing financial issues.
- Familiarity with budgeting processes and financial forecasting techniques.
Nice to have
- Certification as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or equivalent designation is preferred.
- Experience working in a municipal government setting or knowledge of municipal finance practices.
- Familiarity with Canadian public sector accounting standards and regulations.
