What you'll do
- Design and implement innovative lesson plans and educational programs tailored to various age groups and skill levels.
- Facilitate engaging classes and workshops, ensuring a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all participants.
- Assess and evaluate student progress through regular feedback and performance metrics, adapting teaching methods as necessary to meet individual needs.
- Collaborate with other instructors and community organizations to enhance program offerings and share best practices.
- Organize and lead extracurricular activities and events that promote community involvement and lifelong learning.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, student progress, and program outcomes, providing reports as required by management.
- Stay current with educational trends and methodologies, incorporating new techniques and technologies into the curriculum.
- Provide mentorship and support to students, encouraging their personal and academic growth.
- Engage with parents and guardians to communicate student progress and address any concerns or questions.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge of educational best practices.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations during program delivery.
- Promote the City of Hamilton's values and mission through all educational initiatives and community interactions.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Education, a related field, or equivalent experience in teaching or instructional design.
- A minimum of three years of experience in an educational role, preferably in a community or public service setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with diverse groups of people.
- Proven ability to create engaging and effective lesson plans that cater to various learning styles.
- Experience with assessment and evaluation techniques to measure student progress and program effectiveness.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning experiences.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all participants.
- First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle may be required for off-site programs and events.
Nice to have
- Experience working with specific populations, such as youth, seniors, or individuals with disabilities.
- Familiarity with community resources and organizations within Hamilton.
- Additional certifications in specialized areas of instruction, such as arts, sports, or wellness.
- Bilingualism in English and French or other languages is a plus.
Skills & tools
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and educational technology tools.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills to effectively engage audiences.
- Ability to utilize social media and online platforms for program promotion and community engagement.
- Knowledge of curriculum development and instructional design principles.
