What you'll do
- Lead the technical services team in the planning, execution, and management of LRT projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Coordinate with municipal, provincial, and federal agencies to secure necessary approvals and permits for LRT initiatives.
- Develop and implement project management strategies that align with the City of Hamilton's transit goals and objectives.
- Facilitate communication between engineering teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure all parties are informed and aligned on project progress and requirements.
- Conduct thorough reviews of technical documents, designs, and reports to guarantee compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Monitor project milestones and deliverables, providing regular updates to senior management and stakeholders on progress and potential challenges.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with LRT projects, proposing solutions to overcome obstacles and ensure project success.
- Prepare and present technical reports and recommendations to city officials, stakeholders, and the public, fostering transparency and community engagement.
- Collaborate with other departments within the city to integrate LRT projects with existing infrastructure and future development plans.
- Stay informed about advancements in transit technology and best practices, applying this knowledge to improve project outcomes.
- Oversee the preparation of budgets and financial reports related to LRT projects, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth within the technical services team.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, urban planning, or a related field; a master's degree is an asset.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, specifically within the transportation or infrastructure sectors.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale transit projects, with a strong understanding of LRT systems and operations.
- Excellent knowledge of municipal, provincial, and federal regulations related to transit and infrastructure development.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex project challenges effectively.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders and fostering collaboration.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for travel within the city as needed.
- Familiarity with environmental assessments and public consultation processes is an advantage.
Nice to have
- Certification in project management (PMP or equivalent) is preferred.
- Experience working with public sector organizations or municipal governments.
- Knowledge of sustainable transit practices and technologies.
- Bilingualism in English and French is a plus.
