What you'll do
- Lead and manage multiple development engineering projects from initiation through to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including planning, environmental, and transportation departments, to ensure project alignment with city goals.
- Prepare and review project documentation, including feasibility studies, design reports, and technical specifications, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Coordinate with external consultants and contractors, facilitating communication and ensuring that project deliverables meet quality expectations.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress, address any issues that arise, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and engineering standards.
- Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets, providing regular updates to senior management and stakeholders on project status and any potential risks.
- Facilitate public engagement sessions to communicate project details to the community, addressing concerns and incorporating feedback into project plans.
- Mentor and support junior staff members, fostering a collaborative team environment and promoting professional development within the engineering department.
- Analyze and report on project performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices in project management.
- Ensure that all projects align with the city's sustainability goals, integrating environmentally friendly practices into engineering solutions.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies to secure necessary permits and approvals, ensuring compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in engineering practices, incorporating innovative solutions into project planning and execution.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in project management within the engineering sector, preferably in a municipal environment.
- Proven experience in managing development engineering projects, with a strong understanding of municipal infrastructure and land development processes.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficient in project management software and tools, with a solid understanding of engineering design software.
- A valid Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and standards governing engineering practices in Ontario.
Nice to have
- Experience with public engagement processes and community consultation.
- Familiarity with sustainable engineering practices and green infrastructure solutions.
- Previous experience working in a municipal government setting.
- Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) is an asset.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is a plus.
