Developer Experience Engineer
Job description
About the role
This role defines launch readiness and connects engineering, education, and marketing through hands-on launch leadership. You will represent the developer perspective while guiding cross-functional initiatives from strategy to adoption. The position targets remote collaboration based in North America or Europe.
Software engineers turn product ideas into working code. Engineers work in small teams, review each other's work, and ship in small batches. Most teams follow agile practices such as sprints and daily standups. Engineers also write tests, fix bugs, and improve performance. The field values clear communication as much as technical skill. Engineers spend part of every week on planning, code review, and debugging, not just writing new code. The ability to explain a technical decision in plain words separates strong engineers from the rest.
Key facts
What you'll do
Launch readiness is defined with clear success metrics and structured follow-on adoption programs. These programs target developers and AI agents through practical resources and measurable outcomes.
Demos, documentation, articles, videos, and example repositories are created to support developer and AI agent workflows.
Integrations, plugins, and microsites are built to connect product capabilities with external tools and user contexts. The team delivers these components to support adoption.
Webinars, workshops, and adoption programs are run to deepen user engagement and drive product understanding.
Positioning and campaigns are informed by a developer perspective during planning and execution. Sales enablement materials are shaped using direct field insights and cross-team collaboration.
Adoption signals and field feedback are analyzed to refine products and future launch strategies. The team uses these insights to iterate on programs and improve outcomes.
Requirements
Real software has been built, and experience in developer experience, developer relations, or similar roles has been demonstrated.
Experience leading developer-facing launches with Product, Marketing, and Sales has been established. Cross-functional collaboration is required to align messaging and technical capabilities.
Deep frontend development expertise, especially with heavy JavaScript, is necessary for evaluating technical feasibility.
A strong portfolio of articles, talks, tutorials, videos, demos, or open source work is submitted for review.
Technical ideas are explained effectively to both developer and business audiences.
Past experience using adoption signals and field feedback to improve launches or programs is required. This evidence-based approach guides program evolution.
Practical notes
This role requires North America or Europe residency due to coordination needs. Remote collaboration is expected across distributed teams. Typical interview steps
Hiring for engineering roles usually starts with a recruiter screen, followed by one or two technical rounds. Candidates often solve a coding problem, discuss past projects, and answer system design questions. Some loops include a take-home task. Final rounds typically cover team fit and give candidates a chance to ask questions. Interviewers look for how you break down an unfamiliar problem, not just whether you reach the answer. Practicing a few problems aloud and reviewing your own past projects are the best preparation.
Good to know
Developer Experience blends engineering insight with communication and marketing. Professionals in this role work with modern frontend tools and cross-functional stakeholders. The role emphasizes measurable adoption and continuous improvement through feedback.
Career growth
Engineering careers usually progress from individual contributor to senior, staff, and principal levels. Some engineers move into management and lead teams of five to twenty people. Others stay on the technical track. Growth follows demonstrated impact, not tenure alone. A typical engineering ladder has clear levels with defined expectations for scope, quality, and mentorship. Moving up usually requires owning outcomes end to end rather than completing assigned tickets.
