R&D Engineer - Magnets
Job description
About the role
You will own the execution of development test campaigns for our next-generation NINT magnet technology, ensuring that risks are identified, tested, and retired in alignment with SPARC integration timelines. You will act as the primary technical interface between mechanical, electrical, materials, fluids, and systems engineering, coordinating cross-functional efforts to keep demanding test schedules on track. In this role, you will constantly question and refine test objectives and requirements, guiding stakeholders toward consensus on essential data and necessary test procedures. You will analyze and interpret complex test results to support RCCA efforts, resolving issues that emerge with NINT magnets during production and tokamak integration. You will leverage a multidisciplinary foundation to troubleshoot unexpected outcomes and adjust testing methodologies without compromising schedule or safety. You will document all test procedures, results, and decisions with precision to maintain clear technical records for future reference and regulatory review. You will collaborate closely with suppliers and internal teams to ensure that hardware, tooling, and test conditions meet the rigorous standards required for high-field magnet development. You will contribute to the continuous improvement of test infrastructure and processes, driving innovation in how we validate and retire technical risks for fusion energy.
