This role is part of the SPARC Assembly Team, where you will serve as a Fiber Optic Specialist. Your primary responsibility will be to perform all aspects of optical fiber work, including handling, splicing, testing, and the integration of fibers into intricate design features during the assembly of our fusion machine. You will ensure the functional installation, health, and operation of these fibers while actively seeking avenues for continuous improvement. Success in this position requires close collaboration with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to meet shared objectives. This work contributes directly to making Earth sustainable for future generations. The position operates within a multi-disciplinary team of technicians and engineers, where participation and clear, concise communication are essential.
This position will cover the first shift, with potential for overtime during specific periods driven by schedule demands.
What you'll do
You will be responsible for routing cables through complex design features while adhering to strict documentation standards. Precision installation of optical fibers will be required, followed by verification of functional health after each splice. You will test signal integrity across all fiber paths to confirm performance prior to integration. Splicing connections and adjusting terminations will be necessary to support machine operation and reliability. You will review results with engineering and quality teams to ensure alignment on targets and expectations. Coordination with operations staff will be necessary to accommodate overtime during critical periods. Collaboration with suppliers will help secure materials for future energy infrastructure. You will also receive training on handling procedures to safely incorporate fibers into demanding assembly conditions.

Requirements
- You must hold at least a high school diploma or equivalent certificate.
- Three years of experience with fiber optic systems or related technical work is mandatory.
- You must be available to work the first shift, with the ability to accommodate occasional overtime.
- You must possess the physical capability to handle, route, and terminate fibers in demanding environments.
- Strong communication skills are necessary for interaction with operations, engineering, and quality departments.
Nice to Have
Experience with fusion energy projects or large-scale scientific machines is preferred.
