Where You Will Work
Our team operates globally, welcoming contractors and freelancers from every corner of the earth. For this specific engagement, we are prioritizing candidates based in Sydney and Melbourne to ensure seamless collaboration with our local partners. You will enjoy a flexible, remote-friendly structure that supports a healthy work-life balance. This is a full-time, six-month contract role dedicated to driving visual excellence.
Your Core Mission
As Canva expands its AI capabilities, your role becomes vital in teaching machines to understand and generate beautiful design. You will act as a bridge between creative intuition and technical execution. Your primary focus will be on strengthening the feedback loop that trains our visual AI models. This ensures our products remain intuitive, competitive, and of the highest aesthetic standard for users everywhere.
- Creating and maintaining detailed visual annotations for diverse media, including photography, user interfaces, and graphic compositions.
- Conducting thorough reviews of AI-generated visuals, analyzing them for aesthetic appeal, usability, and brand consistency.
- Building structured evaluation frameworks and scoring systems to measure and guide AI performance.
- Investigating model weaknesses by identifying edge cases and failure patterns.
- Converting complex design feedback into clear, actionable instructions for engineering and research teams.
- Experimenting with generative AI tools to test new ideas and understand model capabilities.
- Defining visual taxonomies that categorize styles, attributes, and design patterns.
- Upholding strict standards for data quality, documentation, and project organization.
Who Will Succeed Here
We are looking for individuals with a strong foundation in visual design principles. Your expertise in areas like color theory, typography, and layout should be second nature. A robust portfolio showcasing your work in graphic design, UI/UX, or illustration is essential. You must be fluent in the language of AI training and understand how data impacts model behavior. Success requires the ability to provide precise, structured feedback and comfort in detailed, documentation-focused environments. You should be genuinely excited by the prospect of influencing how artificial intelligence perceives and creates visual content.

About the Team
You will join the Content Studio, part of the larger Content & Discovery Supergroup. This team is dedicated to empowering users through exceptional content and design tools. You will work closely with researchers, engineers, and product managers to embed design integrity directly into AI development. Your goal is to ensure that every visual output generated by Canva feels premium, human-centric, and true to our brand.
Portfolio Submission
To be considered, you must submit a portfolio. It should highlight your graphic design craftsmanship and your direct experience with visual AI projects. Include examples of AI-generated imagery, your experimentation with prompts, and your work managing content at scale. Showcase your ability to assess quality and refine outputs through evaluation and annotation.
