About the role

This role is responsible for owning all on-site decisions related to reinforced concrete and structural masonry inspections at Caddell Construction. You will maintain rigorous documentation that acts as the official project record and provides contractual clarity for every phase of the build. Effective communication with contractors and the Designer of Record is essential to ensure expectations are met without deviation. The core mission is to safeguard public safety by enforcing strict adherence to design intent through verifiable and traceable inspection practices. This position is anchored in Laredo, Texas, and requires a high level of accountability.

What you'll do

Execute precise inspection documentation that captures the date of the test, the technician or inspector involved, the exact location, and the specific results obtained for every test performed.

Reference the relevant ASTM standard and record weather conditions at the time of the inspection to ensure the validity and context of each test result.

Coordinate testing schedules with contractors to align inspections with project timelines and structural workflow requirements, preventing delays and conflicts.

Evaluate all work against the Contract Documents and applicable ASTM standards to confirm substantial compliance before any project phase advances to the next stage.

Generate inspection reports for every test conducted on active jobsites in coordination with the testing laboratory to maintain data integrity.

Record weather conditions and other site variables as they can influence test outcomes and inspection validity, ensuring accurate reporting.

Verify technician data and inspector observations, then sign off on reports to confirm their accuracy and compliance with specifications.

Immediately communicate any discrepancies to the Contractor's QC Manager and document the discrepancy while tracking corrective action until resolution is complete.

Provide a formal statement upon completion of the work confirming that all required tasks were completed in substantial conformance with the Contract Documents and that every necessary inspection and test was performed.

Review testing laboratory outputs to ensure results align with specified acceptance criteria and project needs, validating compliance before final acceptance.

Update daily logs to allow project teams to monitor progress and address emerging issues proactively, supporting transparency and timely decision-making.

Issue a final statement to both the Contractor and the Designer of Record once the work fully meets contractual expectations and all inspections are satisfactorily completed.

Maintain meticulous records that include inspector names, specific locations, and the applicable standards for each inspection to support audits and compliance reviews.

Exercise significant independent decision-making on active jobsites, demonstrating judgment and responsibility without constant supervision.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a current ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector credential, and an equivalent validation is also acceptable for this role.

Alternatively, candidates may qualify with an ICC-SMSI Structural Masonry Special Inspector certification, provided relevant experience supports this qualification and demonstrates capability.

It is mandatory to maintain meticulous records that include inspector names, specific locations, and the applicable standards for each inspection to ensure traceability and compliance.

Candidates should demonstrate three to five years of experience producing inspection reports for commercial construction projects to prove competence in a professional environment.

The role involves significant independent decision-making on active jobsites, requiring confidence and reliability in high-pressure situations.

All inspectors must adhere strictly to the contractual and regulatory standards that govern reinforced concrete and structural masonry work.
