Data Center and Mission Critical

Caddell Construction is seeking a Project Controls Engineer / Scheduler to serve within the project team for a large, multi-building data center and mission critical facility located in Columbus, Ohio. This position is responsible for all project schedule development, analysis, reporting, and change management activities throughout the project lifecycle from intake through final delivery. The role is full time and requires presence on the project site, with the ability to work extended hours as dictated by project needs.

Location and Engagement

The position is based in Columbus, Ohio, United States. The role is full time and requires on-site presence. Work is performed in conditions that may include hot, cold, humid, and wet environments. The position involves crawling, climbing, walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, standing for extended periods, and lifting and holding in excess of 50 pounds. Confined spaces and extreme heights may be encountered, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.

What You Will Do

As a Project Controls Engineer, you will be a key member of a multidisciplinary project team that includes Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, and Quality and Safety personnel. Your primary responsibility is to perform all project controls tasks necessary for the successful construction of a large, multi-building compound.

You will review project plans and specifications to achieve a thorough understanding of scope and requirements. You will analyze contract language to identify project controls-related obligations and constraints. Working closely with the project team and subcontractors, you will develop the master project schedule, collecting data for activity sequences, logic, durations, and labor resource requirements.

You will monitor and record the performance of on-site construction activities, producing periodic schedule reports and engaging with the project team to ensure accuracy of recorded progress. Similar monitoring will be applied to engineering, preconstruction, and procurement activities. You will prepare updates and reports in strict accordance with specifications and ensure timely submission.

When adjustments are required, you will review the schedule to identify changes in scope, activities, duration, or logic needed to reflect current and planned performance. You will discuss potential revisions with the project team and document proposed changes for submission to the client. You will prepare monthly schedule reports to support invoicing, aligning these reports with billing cycles and coordinating with finance to maintain funding integrity.

You will track all potential changes impacting the project, coordinating with the project team to document and preserve correspondence and records. You will produce schedule "fragnets" and time impact analyses to demonstrate schedule delays. You will also perform additional project controls tasks and assignments as needed to support the project.

Requirements

• Three to five years of scheduling experience in heavy civil or data center environments.
• Ability to read plans and specifications to extract scope details that affect critical path and sequencing.
• Experience managing project controls software to maintain logic, durations, and resource data that drive reliable forecasts.
• Clear communication skills for interacting with crews, managers, and clients, including while working at height or inside confined spaces.
• Tolerance for hot, cold, humid, and wet conditions while lifting over 50 pounds and navigating complex environments safely.

Nice to Have

Experience with Caddell projects and mission critical facilities is preferred and will enable a faster start on project requirements.
