What you'll do
- Lead a team of engineers in the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and supply chain, to identify engineering needs and develop effective solutions.
- Establish and implement engineering best practices, standards, and methodologies to enhance operational efficiency and product quality.
- Monitor project progress and performance metrics, providing regular updates to senior management on key milestones and challenges.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address potential engineering issues before they impact project timelines.
- Mentor and develop engineering staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth within the team.
- Oversee the selection and management of external engineering consultants and contractors, ensuring alignment with project objectives and budget constraints.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in engineering technology, integrating relevant innovations into the company's practices.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards, promoting a safe working environment for all engineering personnel.
- Prepare and manage the engineering department budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources to meet project demands.
- Facilitate regular team meetings to encourage open communication, address concerns, and celebrate project successes.
- Collaborate with the R&D department to support the development of new products and enhancements to existing offerings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in an engineering management role, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Proven track record of successfully managing engineering projects from conception to completion.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team of engineers.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovative solutions and process improvements.
- Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies, such as Agile or Lean principles.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and safety standards.
- Proficiency in engineering software and tools, such as CAD, simulation software, and project management applications.
Nice to have
- Experience in the food processing or agricultural sector is a plus.
- Certification as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Alberta or equivalent.
- Familiarity with sustainability practices and initiatives in engineering.
- Experience with budget management and financial forecasting.
- Previous experience in a leadership role within a unionized environment.
