About the role

As a BrightBee classroom substitute, you take ownership of supporting the full group instruction of students at partner sites in the Detroit area, ensuring continuity of learning during regular teacher absences. You will work directly with UPrep and DAAS, embracing the responsibility to maintain a structured and positive classroom environment in line with school expectations. This role requires you to implement lesson plans with precision, manage student engagement, and uphold the academic momentum of the classroom. You are the adaptable professional who ensures that instructional time is protected and student needs are met with consistency. What you'll do

Execute instructional plans delivered by classroom teachers to ensure seamless academic progress for students.

Adapt instructional strategies fluidly to meet the diverse needs of students across all grade levels and content areas.

Monitor student understanding in real time and provide constructive support that reinforces lesson objectives.

Facilitate a learning environment that prioritizes safety, respect, and active participation among all students.

Collaborate with site coordinators and teaching staff to integrate smoothly into established classroom routines.

Uphold school policies and BrightBee guidelines to maintain a professional and reliable presence.

Deploy strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with teachers, students, and staff.

Employ proactive problem-solving skills to address minor classroom challenges with calm and professionalism.

Demonstrate flexibility to transition between different classrooms, subjects, and grade levels throughout the workday.

Contribute to the overall academic growth and morale of the school community through consistent performance.

Requirements

Must have a minimum of 60 college credits to apply for a Michigan substitute permit.

Holding a Bachelor's degree is preferred for this role.

Possess some prior experience working with K-12 students in educational settings, which is required.

Maintain availability for the school day, specifically between the hours of 7am and 4pm.

Exhibit an individual with a genuine enthusiasm for working with children and youth.

Promote academic success through dedicated support and engagement.

Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Show the ability to quickly adapt to varying classroom environments, student needs, and instructional approaches.

Pass a background check, livescan, and potentially obtain other necessary testing or clearances prior to working with students.

Provide authorization for BrightBee to contact former employers as part of the clearance process.

Practical notes

This is a 1099 contract engagement.

Hours are limited to the school day, specifically between 7am and 4pm.

Costs associated with clearance processes, including background checks, livescan, transcripts, and mandated reporter training, are the sole responsibility of the candidate. The average cost in Michigan for a paraprofessional clearance ranges from $125 to $140.

Assignments may require the ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods.
