In this role, you will serve as the day-to-day owner of fraud operations, managing high-volume workflows and making decisions that directly impact loss prevention and customer experience. You will be expected to act with autonomy, using your judgment to balance risk, policy, and customer needs in a fast-paced environment. This position is integral to Brex's AI-native automation strategy, ensuring that intelligent systems are supported by rigorous human oversight. You will work alongside cross-functional partners to translate operational insights into improvements in policy, tooling, and process. Key facts
What you'll do
Manage daily queues of fraud cases assigned to the Fraud Operations team, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
Develop and implement scalable operational processes for fraud detection, investigation, and resolution.
Make risk-based, subjective decisions on high-value and high-risk transactions as well as account offboarding activities.
Achieve company-level goals around reducing financial fraud losses and improving key risk metrics.
Respond to cross-functional partner escalations related to fraud with diligence, balancing risk considerations and delivering customer-centric outcomes.
Participate in streamlining fraud operational workflows around transaction reviews and account investigations.
Take ownership of fraud incident handling, including conducting root cause analysis and closing efficiency gaps.
Partner with Policy, Data Science, and Engineering teams to improve tooling and workflows that scale internal operations.
Leverage AI tools to elevate and enhance fraud queue management, investigation quality, and decision accuracy.
Contribute to the evolution of Brex's AI-native automation to ensure the company scales safely and sustainably.
Monitor fraud trends and translate learnings into actionable recommendations for product and policy updates.
Act as the company expert in fraud operations, driving initiatives that reduce losses and improve internal efficiencies.
Support special projects aligned with the Fraud Operations roadmap, delivering results with full autonomy.
Maintain a strong understanding of fraud risks and controls to safeguard customers, employees, and the business.
Requirements
Must have previous management or team leader experience in an operations or related environment.
Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.
Must maintain an upbeat attitude and the ability to remain calm under pressure while managing high-priority tasks.
Must demonstrate a desire to seek ownership and drive initiatives that improve processes and outcomes.
Must be comfortable working in a hybrid environment with a minimum of three coordinated in-office days per week.
Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship from Brex at this time.
Must be able to relocate to or maintain a work location in Seattle, Washington, United States for the duration of employment.
Must be available to work during standard business hours in the Pacific Time zone.
Nice to have
Experience with fraud operations, transaction monitoring, or financial services risk management.
Familiarity with AI tools and platforms used for fraud detection and investigation.
Background in data analysis or the ability to interpret metrics and key performance indicators.
Prior experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth technology company.
Knowledge of regulatory considerations related to payments and digital transactions.
Practical notes
This role requires a minimum of three coordinated days in the office per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Up to four weeks per year of fully remote work may be available as a perk.
Compensation range is specified as $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 USD on an annual basis.
