Product Engineer, New Verticals

About the role

Bounce is seeking a Product Engineer for New Verticals to join our Lisbon office and take ownership of real customer problems that expand what Bounce can do for travelers beyond luggage storage. You will turn ambiguous ideas into simple, delightful experiences across both backend and frontend, owning customer-facing flows end-to-end from concept through production. You will build and iterate on new product surfaces for mobile and web, moving from prototype to live impact in a fast-paced environment. This role involves collaborating closely with Product, Design, and global teams to explore new ventures and validate them quickly. You will help shape how we build by working in fast cycles, embracing experimentation, and taking full ownership of features. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, loves shipping, and cares deeply about the small details that make travel feel effortless. You will contribute across the entire stack using Elixir, React Native/Expo, React, NextJS, and Typescript, and introduce new tools when they improve outcomes.

What you'll do

Explore new verticals and define product experiments that test novel ways travelers interact with their stuff in cities and transit environments.

Translate ambiguous user needs into concrete product flows, writing high-quality code that turns concepts into production features within one-week cycles.

Own customer-facing journeys end-to-end, including onboarding, booking, post-booking interactions, and magical moments that delight users.

Collaborate with global partners and internal teams to validate ideas quickly, turning learnings into clear product direction and scope.

Write and maintain backend and frontend code using Elixir, React Native/Expo, React, NextJS, and Typescript, ensuring architecture stays robust as new verticals scale.

Design and implement APIs and data models that support flexible, reliable experiences for new traveler use cases.

Instrument products thoroughly to measure behavior, run experiments, and iterate based on real user feedback and performance.

Refactor legacy code and improve existing systems so new verticals can be added without compromising reliability or developer experience.

Partner with Design to translate concepts into polished, intuitive interfaces that feel effortless across web and mobile.

Communicate progress, trade-offs, and dependencies clearly to stakeholders, aligning on goals and timelines for each new vertical.

Contribute to technical roadmaps, helping prioritize work that balances experimentation, stability, and shipping speed.

Take responsibility for releases, monitoring, and operational health of features once they reach production.

Mentor junior engineers by example, sharing best practices around testing, maintainable code, and pragmatic experimentation.

Continuously learn about emerging traveler behaviors and partner capabilities, feeding insights back into product decisions.

Requirements

You have experience shipping production software that users rely on every day.

You are a generalist who thrives in fast-moving ambiguity and loves owning a feature from start to finish across the stack.

You have strong coding skills in one or more of Typescript, Javascript, Elixir, and Ruby.

You have hands-on experience with frontend frameworks such as React and React Native, with a strong sense for UX polish.

You have proven ability to build maintainable, testable codebases, including thoughtful API design and unit/integration testing.

You are product-minded and care deeply about the end-user experience, noticing the small details that make interactions feel effortless.

You are comfortable working in ambiguity, iterating quickly based on feedback, and adjusting direction when results demand it.

You communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and business partners.

Nice to have

Experience with marketplaces or two-sided platforms, especially in travel or physical-world domains.

Familiarity with high-scale distributed systems and databases that handle real-time inventory and location data.

Knowledge of logistics, short-term rental, or on-demand services, and understanding how partners and users interact in those models.

Background in data-intensive domains where decisions are driven by metrics and experiments.

We work in fast one-week cycles, so the ability to move quickly and adapt based on results is essential.
