Lead Analyst, Strategy & Growth
Job description
Lead Analyst, Strategy & Growth at Blackbird Labs Inc.
About the role
Blackbird Labs is looking for a foundational analytical leader to steer the strategic direction and expansion of its restaurant loyalty and payments ecosystem. In this capacity, you will serve as the chief architect for growth measurement, constructing the models and frameworks that dictate expansion priorities and capital allocation. The position demands a blend of deep quantitative rigor and strategic vision to shape how the organization understands marketplace health. You will operate with high autonomy, translating ambiguous high-level questions into concrete analytical roadmaps. This is a unique opportunity to define the data culture of a founding team building novel infrastructure for the hospitality sector.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Establish and govern the comprehensive growth measurement framework, defining north-star metrics and performance targets that align with organizational objectives across all key initiatives.
- Architect and sustain the analytical infrastructure required for executive leadership and Board-level reporting, encompassing market health scorecards, return-on-investment tracking, and strategic narrative development.
- Deconstruct complex strategic inquiries from founders and department heads into structured, actionable recommendations backed by rigorous data-driven analysis and modeling.
- Build and iterate on sophisticated marketplace models covering restaurant quality scoring algorithms, geographic neighborhood prioritization, granular customer segmentation, and predictive lifecycle value estimation.
- Conduct deep-dive analyses on long-term value drivers and marketplace dynamics, specifically monitoring Total Processed Volume (TPV), Monthly Paying Users (MPU), Daily Paying Users (DPU), retention curves, and Fly Load growth trajectories.
- Design, implement, and evangelize a company-wide experimentation framework grounded in statistical rigor, focusing on causal inference methodologies to isolate true incremental impact.
- Embed closely with Product, Engineering, and Marketing squads to instrument new initiatives from inception, defining precise data requirements and logging schemas to ensure measurability.
- Partner with technical stakeholders to develop automated data pipelines and internal tooling that eliminate manual reporting bottlenecks and accelerate the speed of insight generation.
Requirements
- Minimum eight years of professional experience in data science, growth analytics, or quantitative strategy roles, ideally accumulated within marketplace dynamics, fintech, payments ecosystems, or high-scale consumer technology environments.
- Expert-level command of SQL for complex data extraction and transformation, coupled with advanced proficiency in Python or R for statistical modeling, segmentation, and predictive analytics.
- Demonstrated track record of directly influencing critical business outcomes through analytical work, specifically regarding metric selection, prioritization frameworks, and strategic pivot recommendations.
- Deep practical expertise in designing, executing, and interpreting A/B tests, quasi-experiments, and incrementality studies using causal measurement techniques such as difference-in-differences or synthetic controls.
- Thorough understanding of marketplace unit economics, including advanced cohort analysis, lifetime value (LTV) modeling, payback period optimization, and ROI attribution across supply and demand sides.
- Hands-on experience leveraging modern Business Intelligence stacks such as Looker, Amplitude, Mode, or Metabase for dashboarding, exploration, and self-serve enablement.
- Exceptional communication skills with proven ability to present complex quantitative findings to C-suite and Board audiences, translating technical nuance into clear, decisive strategic guidance.
- High comfort operating in an unstructured, ambiguous environment typical of an early-stage founding team, displaying strong ownership bias and low need for directional oversight.
Nice to have
- Prior experience owning and managing a centralized BI environment or semantic metrics layer using tools such as dbt, LookML, or Metabase to enforce governance and consistency.
- Professional background in corporate strategy, management consulting, or investment banking providing frameworks for structured problem-solving and executive communication.
- Specialized expertise in pricing strategy, incentive mechanism design, or paid user acquisition measurement and attribution modeling.
- Domain familiarity with the hospitality industry, restaurant operational workflows, or crypto-enabled token-based loyalty and reward architectures.
