Operations Analyst
Job description
About the Role
Pano AI is actively seeking an Operations Data Analyst to join our PIC Ops team during a critical phase of rapid expansion. As we scale our human review operations across an increasingly global wildfire detection network, the volume and complexity of operational data have grown exponentially. This role exists at the vital intersection of data integrity and operational execution. You will provide the dedicated analytics support required to ensure our detection and response workflows remain accurate, efficient, and scalable. Your primary mission is to transform raw operational data into actionable intelligence that directly supports frontline teams and leadership decision-making. This is a foundational position designed to establish durable, trustworthy reporting infrastructure as Pano AI continues to lead the fight against wildfire.
This position is embedded directly within the PIC Ops team, working closely with vendors, analysts, and leadership. You will be the guardian of data quality and the translator of complex operational metrics into clear, actionable insights. Your work will directly impact the speed and accuracy of our wildfire detection response, reinforcing our core mission of protecting communities and ecosystems. You will not merely analyze data; you will own the tools and processes that drive operational excellence.
What You'll Do
Your core responsibilities will center on owning the SQL, dashboards, and self-serve tools that are the daily operational backbone for our ICs (Individual Contributors) and leadership. You will be the central figure ensuring the reliability and utility of our Metabase environment. Key accountabilities include:
- Owning Operational Dashboards: You will be the steward of our Metabase SQL, dashboards, and self-serve tools, ensuring they provide reliable, real-time insights that ICs and leadership depend on for daily decision-making and KPI tracking.
- Vendor Performance Analysis: You will investigate performance differentials across vendors and time periods, surfacing critical trends and gaps that directly inform operational adjustments, resource allocation, and strategic vendor management.
- Data Integrity Assurance: You will act as the primary safeguard against flawed data, proactively identifying and correcting data quality issues within core reporting tables before they can propagate into misguided operational decisions.
- Collaborative Problem Solving: You will partner directly with the Analytics team to translate complex operational questions into clear, testable SQL queries and analyses, ensuring root-cause anomalies in vendor and agent performance data are identified and corrected.
- Actionable Trend Identification: You will move beyond reporting to diagnose *why* performance shifts occur, recommending concrete corrective actions based on deep data investigation.
- Documentation & Process Standardization: You will build and maintain comprehensive documentation for key dashboards, queries, and data definitions to ensure consistency, reduce redundant requests, and onboard new team members efficiently.
- Pipeline & Forecasting Support: You will monitor data pipelines to guarantee the timely availability of operational data, supporting forecasting tools that help keep staffing levels ahead of demand based on historical and real-time trends.
- Cross-Functional Communication: You will translate intricate operational metrics into clear narratives and visualizations that resonate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, fostering alignment across the organization.
- Continuous Improvement: You will identify opportunities to automate manual reporting tasks, increasing operational efficiency and minimizing the risk of human error within the PIC Ops workflow.
Requirements
To excel in this role, you must possess a specific blend of technical acumen, operational mindset, and communication skills. The baseline qualifications are as follows:
- Education: A Bachelor's degree or higher is required.
- Professional Experience: Prior professional experience in an operations or analyst role is mandatory.
- SQL Proficiency: You must be highly proficient in SQL and capable of writing complex queries against a relational database with confidence and accuracy.
- Data Visualization Expertise: Hands-on experience with data visualization tools, specifically Metabase, is essential for building and maintaining our operational dashboards.
- Startup Agility: You must be comfortable and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment where priorities can shift rapidly and adaptability is key.
- Communication Prowess: Strong written and verbal communication skills are non-negotiable, as you will be responsible for clearly articulating technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Detail Orientation: Meticulous attention to detail is required, with a proven ability to catch discrepancies in data sets and ensure the highest levels of data integrity.
- Self-Motivation: The ability to work independently and manage your time effectively without direct supervision is crucial for success in this role.
Candidates who have previously worked in wildfire detection, emergency response, or environmental monitoring hold a distinct advantage. Similarly, familiarity with dbt and data warehouse modeling practices, experience with vendor management or procurement data, and knowledge of the utilities or insurance sectors will significantly strengthen your application.
