What you'll do

• Design and implement robust security architectures to protect sensitive information and systems from unauthorized access and cyber threats.
• Conduct thorough risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify potential security weaknesses within the organization's infrastructure.
• Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security measures into the software development lifecycle, ensuring that security is a priority from the outset.
• Monitor and analyze security incidents, providing timely responses and remediation strategies to mitigate risks.
• Conduct security awareness training for employees to promote a culture of security within the organization.
• Evaluate and recommend security tools and technologies that enhance the organization's security posture.
• Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity trends, threats, and technologies to continuously improve security practices and protocols.
• Prepare and present detailed reports on security incidents, vulnerabilities, and compliance status to senior management.
• Participate in incident response planning and execution, ensuring that the organization is prepared to respond effectively to security breaches.
• Assist in the development of disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure the organization can maintain operations in the event of a security incident.
• Foster relationships with external partners and stakeholders to enhance the organization's security capabilities and share best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in information security or a related role, with a strong focus on systems security engineering.
• Proficiency in security frameworks and standards such as NIST, ISO 27001, or CIS Controls.
• Hands-on experience with security tools and technologies, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and vulnerability management solutions.
• Strong understanding of network protocols, operating systems, and database security.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and respond to complex security challenges.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CEH are highly desirable.
• Experience with cloud security and securing cloud-based applications is a plus.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, PCI-DSS, or GDPR is advantageous.

• Previous experience working in a government or defense contracting environment.
• Knowledge of secure coding practices and application security testing methodologies.
• Familiarity with incident response frameworks and tools.
• Experience with security automation and orchestration tools.

Skills & tools

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in information security principles and practices. Proficiency in using security tools such as SIEM, endpoint protection, and network monitoring solutions is essential. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or PowerShell for automation tasks is a plus. The candidate should also be adept at using collaboration tools to work effectively with team members across various departments.

This position is based in Ft. Meade, Maryland, and may require occasional travel for training or conferences.
