What you'll do
- Evaluate credit applications and financial data to determine appropriate risk levels for new and existing business clients.
- Review applicant business profiles, including revenue history, payment behavior patterns, and outstanding financial obligations across accounts.
- Collaborate with the underwriting team to develop and continuously update risk scoring models and evaluation criteria.
- Prepare detailed underwriting reports that summarize analytical findings and provide clear support for final credit decisions.
- Monitor portfolio performance on an ongoing basis and identify trends that may indicate emerging or evolving credit risks.
- Coordinate with sales and account management teams to provide guidance on appropriate credit limits and payment terms.
- Conduct thorough due diligence on counterparties to ensure compliance with internal risk thresholds and company standards.
- Contribute to the ongoing refinement of underwriting guidelines based on portfolio outcomes, market shifts, and lessons learned.
- Support the integration of new data sources and analytical tools into the existing underwriting workflow and processes.
- Participate in weekly underwriting meetings to review pending cases, discuss risk exceptions, and align on decision priorities.
- Assist with the creation of training materials and documentation to help newer team members understand underwriting procedures.
- Liaise with the compliance team to ensure all underwriting activities meet regulatory requirements and internal audit standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field is required for this position.
- A minimum of five years of experience in underwriting, credit analysis, or a closely related professional function.
- Demonstrated proficiency in evaluating financial statements and interpreting key business metrics with a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong understanding of credit risk principles and the practical ability to apply them in a commercial lending environment.
- Experience working with underwriting software platforms or enterprise risk management systems in a professional setting.
- Excellent analytical skills with the demonstrated ability to process large volumes of financial data efficiently and correctly.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for preparing comprehensive reports and presenting recommendations to stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent underwriting cases while adhering to established team deadlines.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools and the ability to translate complex financial findings into clear visual formats.
- Track record of maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive financial information with the utmost professional care.
