HR Business Partner
Job description
HR Business Partner at Base Power.
About the role
This role is a critical component of Base Power Company's mission to rebuild the foundation of modern civilization through a vast network of distributed batteries. You will be a visible, trusted presence on the factory floor, acting as the go-to person for shift leads, associates, technicians, and installers when they have questions, concerns, or problems that need solving. You will partner closely with the Frontline HRBP while owning real day-to-day work across our factory floor, ensuring that employee relations, onboarding, and policy administration run smoothly. This is a hands-on position designed for someone who wants to be a true advocate for our people while also serving as a support pillar for our leaders. You will help shape a positive culture where every team member understands their impact on the grid's resilience.
Key facts
What you'll do
You will be a visible, trusted presence on the factory floor, answering questions, hearing concerns, and building relationships with hourly employees and shift leads. You will support new hires joining the installer, production, and warehouse teams, including assisting with onboarding and check-ins. You will handle frontline employee relations issues-attendance, conduct, safety concerns, and interpersonal conflicts-documenting and escalating appropriately. You will support scheduling and attendance policy administration, including tracking points, leave requests, and multi-shift needs. You will help coordinate policy rollouts and other floor-level communication to ensure clarity and alignment. You will track turnover, absenteeism, and engagement trends on the floor and flag patterns to the Frontline HRBP Lead for further action. You will conduct skip levels, round tables, and AMA sessions on the floor to ensure a clear path for questions and escalation for factory employees. You will act as a liaison between hourly staff and leadership to translate priorities and feedback across the organization. You will maintain detailed records and reports related to employee interactions and outcomes to support data-driven decisions.
Requirements
You will bring 1-3 years of experience in HR, people operations, or a related generalist role, with manufacturing, warehouse, retail, or other frontline or hourly environments strongly preferred. You will be comfortable with being on the floor daily, not just at a desk, as this role requires visibility and presence in the Factory. You will possess a strong sense of discretion and judgment when handling sensitive employee situations. You will have a working knowledge of employment law, leave, and employee relations to ensure compliance and accuracy. You will demonstrate clear, calm communication, navigating hard conversations with hourly employees or shift leads with equal ease. You will be detail-oriented and organized, comfortable managing multiple employee asks and cases across multiple shifts simultaneously. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where processes are still being built and priorities may shift quickly. You will have a genuine interest in frontline work and the people who do it, understanding that HR here means being present, not just being available. You will be willing to travel to other warehouses and flex across multiple shifts as needed, roughly 5-10% of the time. You will thrive in an in-person work setting, fully aligned with the expectation to work on-site at all times. You will commit to the operational realities of a startup, where roles evolve and responsibilities expand based on immediate business needs.
Nice to have
There are no preferred qualifications or additional skills specified beyond the core requirements and experience outlined in the role.
Practical notes
Work hours extend beyond nine to five, with some travel and occasional shift flexibility. You will be expected to work in-person consistently and adhere to shift schedules as required by factory operations. Travel to other warehouses may be required on a limited basis, and flexibility across multiple shifts is necessary to support team coverage. This role operates within a fast-paced startup environment where priorities can change rapidly, requiring adaptability and a willingness to take on new challenges as they arise.
