The establishment of a dedicated Data Products Team calls for a Lead Data Products Engineer to define, design, and evolve the data products that underpin modelling processes, analytics outputs, and client-facing systems.
What you'll do
- Define and articulate the business outcomes and technical requirements for data products serving energy market models and client analytics.
- Capture and document data sources, data quality rules, and transformation logic to establish clear lineage for each data product.
- Collaborate with the Data Platform team to design storage, processing, and API layers that support timely and reliable data delivery.
- Lead the development of foundational data products, including datasets, views, and curated feeds used in modelling and reporting.
- Partner with data scientists and analysts to ensure data products meet analytical performance, accuracy, and usability standards.
- Implement monitoring and observability for data products to detect issues, track usage, and support rapid troubleshooting.
- Drive adoption of data products across the Energy Products practice through training, documentation, and stakeholder communication.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to prioritise data product initiatives against delivery timelines and business value.
- Apply agile delivery practices to iterate on data product features based on feedback from subject matter experts and clients.
- Contribute to governance frameworks that ensure data products comply with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote best practices in data architecture, versioning, and testing to improve reliability and maintainability of data products.
- Represent the Data Products team in discussions with technology leaders and practice directors to shape long-term strategy.
- Mentor junior engineers and influence data product standards across the Energy Products practice.
- Foster a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement within the data products team.
- Ensure data products remain aligned with evolving client needs and regulatory expectations.
- Contribute to the strategic roadmap for the internal Data and Processing Platform.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience as a data engineer, data architect, or similar technical role focused on data platforms and products.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one modern programming language used for data engineering, such as Python or Scala.
- Experience working with cloud data platforms and services relevant to data ingestion, storage, and transformation.
- Solid understanding of data modelling concepts, including dimensional modelling, data vault, or similar enterprise approaches.
- Proven ability to design and implement data pipelines that handle large volumes of data with appropriate performance and resilience.
- Experience with data quality frameworks, monitoring, and alerting for data-driven systems.
- Knowledge of energy markets, trading, or regulatory environments is highly relevant and will be considered a core part of the role.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of documentation, version control, and reproducible data practices.
Nice to have
- Experience working with complex analytical models and the data requirements that support them.
- Familiarity with tools and platforms commonly used in consulting environments for data and analytics delivery.
- Background in financial services, utilities, or other regulated industries where data governance is critical.
