About the role
You will own the end to end management of complex government commercial engagements within the Home Affairs sector for UK public sector clients. You will be responsible for shaping and delivering commercial strategy that enhances procurement, contracting and supplier management outcomes. This role gives you direct ownership of transforming commercial capability and influencing at the most senior levels of government. You will work at the intersection of policy, operations and commercial insight, ensuring that value for money is embedded in every engagement. You will be accountable for both the commercial integrity and the successful delivery of outcomes for high profile public sector programmes.

What you'll do
Lead government commercial transformation initiatives for Home Affairs and wider public sector clients, focusing on procurement, contracting and supplier performance improvement.
Design and evolve commercial operating models, establishing robust governance, clear processes, defined decision rights, explicit accountabilities and effective controls.
Advise clients on commercial efficiency opportunities, identifying where commercial functions, supplier arrangements or contract structures can unlock better value for money.
Bring practical knowledge of government commercial regulations, procurement requirements, approval routes and governance frameworks directly into client delivery engagements.
Collaborate seamlessly with broader Baringa teams to embed commercial expertise within transformation, operating model, digital, data, technology and change programmes.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior government stakeholders including commercial directors, operational leaders, finance teams, policy teams and delivery partners.
Identify and shape new commercial opportunities, actively contributing to proposals, account development and the expansion of Baringa's government commercial capability.
Lead and develop consultants within multi-disciplinary project teams, providing clear direction, coaching and feedback while strengthening Baringa's internal commercial knowledge and methodologies.
Champion the use of advanced data analytics and insight to underpin commercial decision making and to demonstrate tangible value to public sector clients.
Act as a commercial thought partner to clients, challenging assumptions and co-creating solutions that improve market engagement and supplier performance.
Ensure commercial risk is properly assessed, mitigated and communicated throughout the lifecycle of complex public sector engagements.
Represent Baringa's commercial practice in forums and discussions that influence the broader public sector commercial agenda.
Requirements
You possess significant experience in government commercial, public sector procurement or a related advisory role, demonstrating a proven track record in complex commercial engagements.
You have a deep understanding of UK government commercial regulations, procurement frameworks and approval routes, and how these are applied in practice with public sector clients.
You hold experience working closely with central government departments, agencies and arm's length bodies, particularly within the Home Affairs domain.
You have a strong background in managing and improving supplier relationships, contract performance and value for money in public sector contexts.
You demonstrate the ability to lead and develop consultants, providing coaching, direction and feedback that elevates the capability of multi-disciplinary delivery teams.
You hold experience in designing commercial operating models, governance structures and control frameworks that enhance transparency and accountability.
You communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, translating complex commercial concepts into clear, actionable advice and options.
You hold a degree or equivalent professional qualification, with a strong aptitude for commercial analysis, problem solving and structured thinking.
Nice to have
Experience of working within the UK Home Affairs policy landscape, including Policing, Defence, Justice, the Home Office and related Arm's Length Bodies.
Knowledge of relevant government commercial tools, templates and best practice standards used in public sector delivery.
Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams on large scale transformation, digital, data, technology or change programmes within the public sector.

This engagement is full time based in London, United Kingdom.
The role requires travel to UK client locations as required.
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom without sponsorship.
