Our Risk and Compliance practice are looking for an experienced consultant to join our Financial Crime team. Baringa is committed to reducing financial crime and the negative consequences it has on society. We help our clients to better understand how Financial Crime can be carried out through their organisations and to put in place targeted controls, enabling them to manage this risk efficiently.
What you'll do
You will be working as part of a team to play a lead role in the following types of client engagements. You will design and support the implementation of financial crime target operating models for clients across multiple jurisdictions. You will assess and benchmark the effectiveness of firms' financial crime systems and controls against regulation and legislation. You will perform detailed risk assessments and gap analyses to identify areas of non-compliance and potential vulnerabilities. You will lead the development of policies, procedures, and standards aligned with regulatory expectations. You will facilitate workshops and interviews to gather requirements and validate solutions with senior stakeholders. You will interpret complex regulatory changes and translate them into practical guidance for implementation teams. You will prepare high-quality deliverables, including reports, presentations, and decision papers for client steering committees. You will manage multiple workstreams and coordinate with internal specialists to ensure timely and coordinated delivery. You will mentor junior team members and support their professional development within demanding client environments.
Requirements
You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant discipline such as law, finance, or business. You possess a minimum of 5 years' experience in financial crime, compliance, or advisory within financial services. You have demonstrable experience in Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and sanctions compliance. You have worked with regulatory frameworks and supervisory expectations in at least one major jurisdiction. You have delivered consulting projects or advisory work in regulated environments. You communicate effectively with senior stakeholders and can manage conflicting priorities under tight deadlines. You are proficient in Microsoft Office and demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. You hold a clean professional record with no breaches of regulatory standards. You are able to relocate to Sofia, Bulgaria and obtain a local working visa if required.
Nice to have
Experience in financial services regulation and supervisory dialogue is preferred. Familiarity with advanced data analytics and technology tools in compliance is advantageous. Knowledge of payment systems and transaction monitoring is valued. Experience in transformation programmes within large institutions is a benefit.
Practical notes
The role is based in Sofia, Bulgaria. The engagement type is full-time consulting. Travel may be required within the region as part of client projects. Candidates must be eligible to relocate to Bulgaria and meet local visa requirements. The position is open to candidates who can start at short notice.
