Senior Accountant - Remote

About the role

Bamboohr is currently seeking a Senior Accountant to fill a remote full-time position within their finance department. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing essential accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy of all financial records maintained by the organization. This role plays a critical part in the month-end and year-end closing cycles, requiring careful attention to detail and a strong understanding of accounting standards. The Senior Accountant will also collaborate with team members across departments to support financial planning, reporting activities, and the continuous improvement of internal financial controls and procedures.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Manage the complete monthly close process including journal entries, accruals, deferrals, and reconciliations across all general ledger accounts
• Prepare and review detailed financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for internal and external stakeholders
• Ensure full compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and all applicable regulatory requirements governing financial reporting
• Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and intercompany accounts on a regular basis to identify and resolve discrepancies promptly
• Support the annual external audit process by coordinating with auditors and providing all necessary documentation and explanations
• Develop and maintain comprehensive accounting policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency and ensure consistent accuracy
• Analyze financial data and prepare variance reports to identify trends and provide actionable insights for management decision-making
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows including invoice processing, payment scheduling, and overdue account follow-ups
• Assist with annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting activities by compiling and validating departmental financial projections and data
• Oversee the fixed asset register and coordinate depreciation calculations, asset acquisitions, and disposals in accordance with policy
• Coordinate with the payroll team to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee compensation and related withholdings
• Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly sales tax filings and other regulatory tax forms in accordance with deadlines

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university
• A minimum of five years of professional accounting experience in a corporate or service-oriented business environment
• Strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting standards and their practical application
• Demonstrated proficiency with accounting software and enterprise resource planning systems in a professional setting
• Proven experience managing month-end close processes and preparing accurate financial statements with minimal supervision
• Excellent attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to maintain precision in high-volume transactional work
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with team members and external partners
• Ability to work autonomously in a remote setting while consistently meeting established deadlines and deliverables
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain composure during peak accounting periods and year-end close

Nice to have

• Certified Public Accountant designation or active progress toward obtaining the CPA license
• Experience working with multi-entity or multi-currency accounting environments in a professional services context
• Familiarity with tax preparation and compliance reporting requirements for business entities and partnerships
• Prior background in the translation or localization industry is considered a strong advantage
• Experience with budgeting and forecasting tools and financial planning methodologies
• Knowledge of international accounting standards including IFRS and experience with cross-border financial transactions

Skills & tools

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, and complex financial modeling techniques
• Hands-on experience with QuickBooks, Xero, or similar cloud-based accounting platforms for daily operations
• Working knowledge of ERP systems such as NetSuite, Sage, or Microsoft Dynamics for financial management
• Familiarity with audit management software and secure document management and storage systems
• Ability to use collaboration tools including video conferencing platforms and project management applications effectively
• Strong analytical skills with the capacity to interpret complex financial data sets and draw meaningful conclusions
• Experience with reporting dashboards and business intelligence tools for financial data visualization
