What you'll do
- Oversee the preparation and transportation of deceased individuals in accordance with military and federal regulations, ensuring compliance with all legal and ethical standards.
- Coordinate with various stakeholders, including military personnel, funeral homes, and family members, to facilitate the necessary arrangements for the deceased.
- Maintain accurate records of all mortuary affairs activities, including documentation of the identification process and the handling of remains.
- Provide support and guidance to families of the deceased, offering assistance with the grieving process and addressing any concerns they may have regarding the arrangements.
- Conduct regular training sessions for staff on best practices in mortuary affairs, ensuring that all team members are knowledgeable about procedures and protocols.
- Collaborate with local and federal agencies to ensure that all mortuary affairs operations are conducted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of mortuary affairs operations.
- Participate in community outreach programs to educate the public about the services provided by the mortuary affairs team and the importance of honoring the deceased.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations for senior management regarding mortuary affairs operations and any issues that may arise.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in mortuary science to continually improve service delivery.
- Manage inventory and procurement of necessary supplies and equipment for mortuary operations, ensuring that all resources are available when needed.
- Provide on-call support during emergencies or critical incidents, ensuring that the mortuary affairs team is prepared to respond promptly.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in mortuary affairs, funeral services, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of military protocols and regulations related to mortuary affairs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with grieving families.
- Proven ability to manage sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Familiarity with record-keeping and documentation practices in the mortuary field.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel as needed for operational requirements.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations related to the handling of deceased individuals.
