About the role
You will drive engagement between Anrok's Legal, Finance, and Tax teams and Engineering to develop and build out Anrok's international indirect tax platform. In this role, you will research and document taxability determinations, tax rates, and compliance requirements to ensure accuracy and clarity. You will own the preparation and filing support of tax returns for customers, ensuring processes are reliable and scalable. You will engage with third-party accounting partners on internal research projects and help integrate their workflows into the platform. This position requires you to simplify complex tax scenarios for both internal stakeholders and external partners. You will analyze real-world situations to translate physical goods tax rules into actionable guidance. Your work will directly support the company mission of enabling global commerce without compliance complexity.

What you'll do
- Assist with in-depth research on US and International tax matters alongside regulatory updates impacting physical goods.
- Analyze tax implications for new business activities and product features specific to indirect tax on tangible products.
- Support Product Tax Code research and validation to ensure classifications align with real-world physical goods tax rules.
- Aid in the registration and compliance research process for customers operating across multiple tax jurisdictions.
- Respond to technical tax questions from internal teams with a focus on clarity and practical application.
- Support customer-facing teams by providing tax guidance that simplifies complex compliance topics for non-experts.
- Assist with customer onboarding and activation questions related to tax registration and filing obligations for physical goods.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Anrok knowledge base with accurate and current tax information.
- Help analyze and direct ad hoc projects related to international and US indirect tax compliance for physical goods businesses.
- Engage with customers to walk them through tax technical processes in a clear, structured, and empathetic manner.
- Drive collaboration between Anrok's Legal, Finance, and Tax teams to close gaps in process and documentation.
- Support the execution of key processes around US and international tax compliance for indirect tax on physical goods.
- Provide detailed documentation of taxability determinations to create a repeatable and auditable process.
- Partner with third-party accounting firms to align internal research with external compliance realities.
Requirements
- You have 2-5 years of professional experience in indirect tax with a focus on hands-on work in the field.
- You possess direct experience with physical goods indirect tax compliance, not solely digital or software-specific tax regimes.
- You have engaged with tax registration and returns preparation processes for sales tax, VAT, or GST in at least one major jurisdiction.
- You understand how tax rates and rules vary across jurisdictions for physical goods and can interpret those differences.
- You are comfortable researching technical tax issues using primary sources and regulatory guidance.
- You can communicate tax concepts clearly to both tax professionals and non-tax stakeholders.
- You have a strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling tax-related documentation and calculations.
- You are self-motivated and able to manage your time effectively in a fully remote environment.
- You are legally authorized to work in the country from which you are applying for this role.
- You have a proven track record of taking ownership of complex problems and driving them to resolution.
Nice to have
- Experience with international VAT compliance and how it intersects with indirect tax on physical goods.
- Familiarity with how AI tools can be applied to research, classification, or documentation in tax workflows.
- Background working with billing and payment systems that interface with tax automation platforms.

- This is a full-time remote role.
- Employees based in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, and Salt Lake City may follow a hybrid model with in-person collaboration three days per week.
