Workday Financial Systems Analyst
Job description
About the role
You will be one of the first hires of the newly formed Systems team at AMBOSS, playing a pivotal role in establishing the technical and operational foundation for our finance systems. This position offers the opportunity to shape best practices and governance from the ground up, ensuring that every decision contributes to a cohesive and scalable landscape. You will own the configuration, optimization, and support of Workday Financials and the integrations that connect it to the rest of our business. In this role, you will act as the central expert ensuring that problems are solved in the right system, leading to reliable data and clear business outcomes. Your work will directly enable clinicians and medical professionals worldwide by ensuring the platforms they rely on function seamlessly. You will collaborate closely with Finance, Accounting, Commercial, Data, and IT to align system behavior with strict audit and compliance standards. This is a rare greenfield position where your systems thinking will have a long-lasting impact on the stability and evolution of our financial infrastructure.
Key facts
What you'll do
Configure, maintain, and continuously improve the Workday Financials backbone of our end-to-end finance processes, including record-to-report (General Ledger), procure-to-pay (Accounts Payable), order-to-cash (Accounts Receivable), and bank connectivity (Banking & Settlement).
Design and manage business process configurations, security roles, and domain policies in alignment with finance, audit, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and operational integrity.
Build and maintain the custom reports, dashboards, and calculated fields that Finance and leadership rely on for accurate and timely decision-making.
Design and manage the integrations that keep data flowing cleanly across the landscape, connecting Workday with Stripe, HubSpot, Pleo, Avalara, banks, payroll, and archiving solutions.
Look across the whole systems landscape and recommend in which system a problem should be solved, so processes stay simple end to end and produce clean, trustworthy data.
Lead system testing activities, including unit, regression, and UAT, for configuration changes, bi-annual Workday releases, and new feature adoptions to ensure quality and stability.
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to gather requirements, translate business needs into system solutions, and deliver scalable configurations that support commercial and operational goals.
Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for Workday Financials issues, troubleshoot root causes, and implement lasting fixes that reduce future friction and risk.
Support Workday module expansions, re-implementations, and cross-functional projects as the primary Finance systems SME, ensuring continuity and consistency.
Maintain comprehensive system documentation, including configuration guides, process flows, and change logs to support knowledge transfer and long-term maintainability.
Requirements
Bring 2 years of (or more) hands-on Workday Financials configuration experience across the core modules, including General Ledger (GL), Accounts Payable (AP), and Accounts Receivable (AR).
Have direct experience with the Workday business process framework and security configuration, understanding how policies and roles control system behavior.
Demonstrate strong Workday reporting skills, including the creation of custom reports and calculated fields that provide actionable insights for finance teams.
Show experience connecting SaaS business systems, including the use of APIs, integration patterns, and an understanding of what ensures clean data flows between tools.
Think in terms of end-to-end processes across multiple systems rather than optimizing for a single tool, prioritizing simplicity and data integrity.
Possess a solid understanding of core accounting concepts, such as chart of accounts, period close procedures, and reconciliations, to ensure system behavior supports accurate reporting.
Apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills, using a structured approach to troubleshooting complex issues in a multi-tool environment.
Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, translating technical system concepts for finance stakeholders and business needs for IT teams.
Nice to have
Proficiency in German, which would help streamline communication with local stakeholders and support seamless collaboration.
Workday Pro certification in Financials or adjacent modules, demonstrating a validated depth of expertise in the platform.
Prior involvement in a full Workday implementation or re-implementation, bringing real-world experience of large-scale configuration and change management.
