About the role
The role centers on owning the complete lifecycle of user-facing features within the Educator Tool, a B2B product that shapes how medical knowledge is delivered to future clinicians. You will translate ambiguous educational workflows into robust, accessible, and high-performance frontend architectures that serve institutions and their learners. This position requires leading by example, setting standards for code quality, testing, and inclusive design across the entire frontend stack. You will work hand in hand with product and design to refine requirements, while also acting as the first responder to support needs that emerge in production. The role emphasizes mastery of modern React, TypeScript, and AI-assisted development, positioning you to influence both the technical direction and the craftsmanship of the team. You will mentor engineers, drive best practices, and ensure that every feature released improves both the experience for users and the maintainability of the codebase. Ultimately, your work will directly support medical educators in delivering effective learning experiences that make clinicians' professional lives easier and more enjoyable.

What you'll do
Analyze ambiguous educational requirements and translate them into well-scoped, testable frontend solutions that align with product goals.
Design and implement reusable component libraries and design system integrations, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the Educator Tool.
Champion an AI-first development workflow by integrating agentic tools such as Claude Code into daily practices, optimizing how the team builds and deploys software.
Lead the definition and execution of performance strategies, focusing on bundle size, lazy loading, and runtime efficiency to support diverse network conditions.
Own end-to-end delivery for features, coordinating with design, product, and backend teams to integrate GraphQL and REST APIs seamlessly into the frontend.
Establish and enforce rigorous accessibility standards, treating WCAG guidelines as a baseline and advocating for inclusive design decisions at every architectural stage.
Implement comprehensive testing strategies, including unit, integration, and visual regression tests, to ensure high levels of quality and maintainable test suites.
Proactively address ad-hoc requests from customer support channels, diagnosing issues and proposing long-term improvements to the user experience.
Mentor frontend engineers by sharing knowledge, conducting code reviews, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the AMBOSS community.
Collaborate closely with customer support and educational institutions to gather feedback and drive iterative improvements that simplify complex workflows for users.
Optimize the developer experience by refining toolchains, build processes, and component documentation to enable faster and more reliable feature development.
Balance deep, focused coding sessions with collaborative design discussions, contributing effectively in whiteboarding, pair programming, and solo problem-solving.
Take initiative in identifying process gaps and proposing solutions that enhance both the efficiency of the team and the quality of the product.
Ensure that every feature you ship has a clear impact on the educational workflow, helping medical educators teach more effectively and learners become better clinicians.
Requirements
You possess deep hands-on expertise with modern JavaScript, TypeScript, and React, with a demonstrated ability to build complex user interfaces at scale.
You have proven experience integrating AI coding agents such as Claude Code into real production workflows, with the judgment to understand where they add value and where human oversight is essential.
You bring experience across the full development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and system design through coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance in production environments.
You have worked with shared design systems and component libraries, and you understand how to integrate APIs, whether GraphQL or REST, from the frontend with strong attention to type safety and reliability.
You treat accessibility as a baseline standard, with a deep understanding of WCAG guidelines and a commitment to advocating for inclusive design in every architectural decision you make.
You are a performance optimization expert, capable of reasoning about bundle sizes, tree-shaking, lazy loading, and how architectural decisions affect user experience across different devices and network conditions.
You have a testing and quality mindset, with hands-on experience in component testing strategies, including unit, integration, and visual regression testing, and you know how to build maintainable and scalable test suites.
You communicate with clarity and precision in English, both verbally and in writing, and you can articulate technical trade-offs to engineers, designers, and stakeholders with confidence.
You are deeply curious about optimizing development processes, and you enjoy learning the intricacies of educational domains to build better abstractions and user experiences.

Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in Berlin.
The role requires availability during standard working hours for collaboration with European teams.
Candidates must be eligible to work in Germany without sponsorship requirements.
Travel is generally not required for this role, as the team operates primarily in a remote-friendly, asynchronous manner.
