What you'll do

• Lead and manage the daily operations of the XRF laboratory, ensuring that all analytical procedures are conducted accurately and efficiently.
• Supervise and mentor a team of laboratory technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for XRF analysis to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee the calibration and maintenance of XRF equipment, ensuring that all instruments are functioning optimally and producing reliable results.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including quality assurance, research and development, and client services, to support project goals and timelines.
• Analyze and interpret data generated from XRF analyses, preparing comprehensive reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage the laboratory budget, including procurement of supplies and equipment, to ensure cost-effective operations.
• Stay updated on advancements in XRF technology and analytical techniques, integrating new methodologies into laboratory practices as appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the laboratory environment, promoting a safe working culture.
• Engage with clients to understand their analytical needs, providing technical support and guidance on XRF applications.
• Participate in audits and inspections, preparing documentation and evidence to demonstrate compliance with quality management systems.
• Contribute to the development of new analytical services and methodologies to expand the laboratory's capabilities and offerings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Geology, Materials Science, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role, specifically in XRF analysis.
• Strong knowledge of XRF technology, including sample preparation, data analysis, and instrument calibration.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing laboratory SOPs and quality control measures.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a focus on fostering a collaborative work environment.
• Proficient in data analysis software and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
• Familiarity with regulatory standards related to laboratory operations, such as ISO 17025, is a plus.

Nice to have

• Experience in a mining or mineral processing environment, particularly related to XRF applications.
• Knowledge of other analytical techniques, such as ICP-MS or AAS, would be advantageous.
• Previous experience in a client-facing role, providing technical support and consultation.
• Certification in laboratory management or quality assurance is a plus.
