What you'll do
- Lead and scale large engineering organizations exceeding 25 people.
- Directly supervise engineering managers and senior individual contributors.
- Provide technical guidance for new business ventures and strategic projects.
- Communicate and align technical goals with C-level stakeholders.
- Drive cross-functional initiatives beyond your immediate team.
- Define and execute the technical roadmap for your specific domain.
- Foster a culture of mentorship and professional development to help your team reach their potential.
- Recruit and integrate top-tier engineering talent into the organization.
- Design and implement robust technical architectures that support scalable growth.
- Analyze system performance metrics to identify areas for optimization and improvement.
- Partner with product and design teams to ensure the delivery of user-centric solutions.
- Establish best practices for code quality, security, and deployment pipelines.
- Act as a subject matter expert to resolve complex technical disputes and dependencies.
- Ensure that all engineering activities comply with organizational standards and governance.
- Utilize system ownership experience to maintain high availability and operational resilience.
- Leverage data from experimentation frameworks to drive informed technical decisions.
- Oversee the implementation of CI/CD pipelines to accelerate release frequency.
- Guide the adoption of clean architecture principles to ensure long-term maintainability.
- Collaborate with global stakeholders to align technical strategy with business growth.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience in software engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience in an engineering management capacity.
- Proven track record of managing large teams of 25+ people.
- Experience hiring managers and developing leadership talent internally.
- Demonstrated success in rapidly growing engineering teams.
- Hands-on experience as a system owner with full operational responsibility.
- High proficiency in at least one programming language such as React, Javascript, Kotlin, Scala, Java, or C#.
- Strong understanding of microservices, clean architecture, and system scale.
- Ability to work autonomously, set KPIs, and take full ownership of outcomes.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a quantitative field.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary for executive interactions.
- Experience with agile methodologies and iterative delivery processes.
- Willingness to mentor junior engineers and facilitate technical knowledge sharing.
- Practical experience with Big Data technologies and handling high-volume data streams.
- Familiarity with mission-critical systems and the challenges of maintaining them.
- Understanding of the demands for frequent daily releases and the practices required to achieve them.
- Knowledge of system monitoring and the interpretation of performance metrics.
- Experience working within a globally distributed engineering culture.
