Adyen is seeking an Engineering Director to lead the global Developer Experience (DevX) team. This role involves defining the strategy for how merchants and partners integrate with Adyen's platform. You will improve the developer journey, making integration straightforward and superior. The position requires establishing and implementing the vision for Adyen's Developer Experience, aligning it with company goals and developer needs. You will maintain high quality standards for all integration products, ensuring consistency and simplicity across the board. A core part of this role is championing developers by improving the usability, reliability, and efficiency of integrations, APIs, and tools. You will lead and expand a diverse, high-performing team across areas like webhooks, API quality, SDKs, and developer relations. This position drives the adoption of common principles and terminology to streamline integration processes and enhance API consistency. The role acts as a public advocate within the developer community through conferences, articles, and thought leadership. You will be responsible for fostering an environment where integration simplicity and reliability are paramount.

• Mentor senior engineers and architects, focusing on career growth and technical excellence within the DevX organization.
• Evaluate and integrate new technologies and methodologies to improve the developer tooling landscape.
• Ensure all documentation and resources meet the highest standards of clarity, accuracy, and usability for global audiences.
• Partner with sales and customer success teams to identify integration challenges and develop strategic solutions.
• Track key performance indicators to measure the success of the developer experience and iterate based on data.

Requirements

• 7+ years of technical experience, including significant time as a hands-on software engineer.
• 3+ years of experience in manager of managers roles, maintaining strong technical understanding.
• Experience leading engineering organizations of 40 or more engineers.
• A strong interest in developer experience, integration simplicity, and reliability.
• Demonstrated leadership in engineering, particularly with developer-facing products, APIs, or integrations.
• A public presence as a thought leader, including speaking at conferences and writing articles.
• Excellent mentorship and team-building abilities, with a history of fostering inclusive and high-performing teams.
• A customer-focused approach aimed at delivering measurable results for both internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong ownership and the ability to make informed decisions in ambiguous and rapidly changing environments.
• Proficiency in modern software development practices, including agile methodologies and continuous integration.
• Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• A proven track record of building and scaling high-performance engineering teams in a SaaS environment.
