About the role
Adyen is seeking an Engineering Director to spearhead our global initiatives focused on enhancing the developer experience for merchants and partners. This role involves overseeing the advancement of our public APIs, SDKs, and comprehensive documentation, ensuring that developers around the globe enjoy a seamless and high-quality integration process.

What you'll do
- Define and implement the strategic vision for the Developer Experience sector, aligning it with the broader objectives of the company and the specific needs of developers.
- Uphold and enhance quality benchmarks for integration products, prioritizing aspects such as scalability, performance, and uniformity across offerings.
- Champion developer usability by refining and optimizing APIs, tools, and integration workflows to facilitate smoother interactions.
- Lead and expand a diverse team that encompasses webhooks, API quality assurance, SDK development, developer relations, and monitoring functions.
- Standardize integration methodologies and terminology to enhance the consistency and reliability of our APIs.
- Act as a representative of Adyen within the developer community, engaging in public speaking events, writing articles, and participating in industry discussions.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that developer feedback is integrated into product enhancements and new feature developments.
- Monitor industry trends and competitor offerings to keep Adyen at the forefront of developer experience innovations.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team, encouraging experimentation and the adoption of best practices.
- Develop metrics and KPIs to evaluate the success of developer experience initiatives and make data-driven decisions for future enhancements.
- Engage with customers to gather insights and feedback, ensuring that our solutions meet their evolving needs and expectations.
- Mentor and guide team members, promoting professional growth and a collaborative work environment.
Requirements
- A minimum of 7 years of technical experience, with a solid foundation as a hands-on software engineer.
- At least 3 years of experience in managerial roles, specifically in overseeing other managers while maintaining technical expertise.
- Demonstrated experience in leading large teams, ideally comprising 40 or more engineers.
- A proven track record in mentoring and fostering inclusive, high-performing teams that excel in their objectives.
- Strong public presence with experience as a thought leader within the developer community, showcasing expertise through various platforms.
- A customer-focused mindset, capable of delivering measurable outcomes that align with user needs and business goals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making and problem-solving.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with cloud services and infrastructure, particularly in relation to API deployment and management.
- Experience with agile methodologies and practices, enhancing team efficiency and project delivery.

- Proficiency in public APIs and SDK development.
- Expertise in creating and maintaining developer documentation that is clear and accessible.
- Familiarity with integration monitoring tools and techniques to ensure optimal performance.
- Experience with webhooks and their implementation in various applications.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and best practices in software engineering.
Practical notes
- The annual base salary for this position ranges from $300,000 to $367,000, in addition to Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Adyen is open to visa transfers but does not support H-1B CAP applications.
