This role functions as a fully independent content operation where the hire owns pitching, shooting, writing, editing, and delivering content with speed and accuracy, often without additional field or production support. Success in this position depends on the ability to prioritize visual storytelling in the field, capture compelling video under pressure, and quickly turn that content into digital-first stories that meet strict standards for accuracy and impact. Approximately 80% of the role is focused on digital production from a home base, with 20% dedicated to field deployment during severe weather and major weather-related events. The hire owns the full lifecycle of content from initial concept through final delivery, ensuring that every piece serves the audience need for timely, trustworthy weather information. This position plays a critical role in AccuWeather's strategy to lead coverage during high-impact weather and consistently produce engaging digital content year-round.

What you'll do

Produce digital-first video content designed for social and mobile platforms, prioritizing strong hooks, clear storytelling, and high engagement across key channels.

Pitch and develop original story ideas aligned with daily digital priorities and content categories, ensuring relevance to ongoing weather and news cycles.

Shoot, write, and edit video independently using Adobe Premiere, delivering both short-form and long-form content that meets platform-specific standards.

Operate as a solo field reporter during severe weather and breaking news events, capturing b-roll, conducting interviews, and delivering live or recorded reports under difficult conditions.

Be available for rapid deployment during severe weather events and breaking news coverage, often with little advance notice, and deliver content under tight timelines in dynamic field conditions and work extended hours in the field when required.

Prioritize capturing compelling, real-time visuals in the field, including storm footage, damage assessment, and human impact stories that illustrate the effects of severe weather.

Turn quick-hit digital videos under tight deadlines, as well as fully produced packages ranging from 60 to 120 seconds, balancing speed with narrative depth and visual quality.

Conduct on-the-ground interviews and produce character-driven storytelling from impacted communities, giving voice to those affected by weather events and connecting with local audiences.

Maintain rigorous attention to safety and situational awareness while filming in the field, ensuring personal well-being and responsible reporting during hazardous conditions.

Coordinate closely with meteorologists and news teams to align field coverage with forecast updates and ensure that content reflects the latest information and guidance.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously, organizing footage, scripts, and assets in a disciplined manner to meet daily publishing schedules and editorial standards.

Uphold accuracy, fairness, and transparency in all reporting, verifying facts and providing context that helps audiences understand the science behind the weather.

Continuously refine storytelling techniques through feedback and self-review, adapting content strategies to audience response and emerging trends in digital media consumption.

Represent AccuWeather professionally in all assignments, embodying the brand's commitment to excellence, reliability, and public service in every piece of content produced.

Requirements

This position requires candidates to reside, or be willing to relocate, to Washington D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, or Massachusetts and have reasonable access to a major commercial airport.

Candidates must be available for field deployments that may involve multiple consecutive days in the field, long hours often spanning 12 to 16 hours or more, and rapidly changing conditions during active weather or disaster coverage.

The role demands the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, making timely decisions in fast-paced environments while maintaining a high standard of journalism.

Applicants must possess strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate complex weather information into clear, accessible content for diverse audiences.

A reliable vehicle and valid driver's license are required due to the necessity of traveling to field locations on short notice, often in challenging weather conditions.

Candidates must be comfortable using modern digital tools, content management systems, and social platforms to distribute and amplify content across multiple channels.

The position requires a commitment to safety, ethical reporting, and adherence to journalistic standards, particularly when covering severe weather, natural disasters, and public safety events.
