The Manager, Public Relations Strategy directs and delivers strategic media relations initiatives that elevate AccuWeather's global brand. This role reinforces the company's standing as the most accurate and most used source of weather forecasts and warnings worldwide. It also advances the core mission of saving lives and protecting property. The position reports directly to the Vice President of Corporate Communications. The Manager, Public Relations Strategy works closely with the Director of Corporate Communications and the Media Relations Supervisor. The role also involves leading and mentoring corporate communications interns.
This role develops and maintains strong relationships with national, regional, and trade media. It provides strategic guidance to secure high-impact coverage of AccuWeather's news and content. The Manager, Public Relations Strategy shapes compelling narratives around Superior Accuracy™, products, innovation, leadership, and enterprise solutions. The role supports executive visibility and acts as a key strategic advisor. This ensures consistent, timely, and accurate messaging across earned media channels in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.
Key responsibilities include developing and executing comprehensive media strategies aligned with corporate priorities. These priorities cover product launches, major weather events, research releases, partnerships, and company milestones. The role cultivates and maintains strong relationships with reporters, editors, producers, and influencers across national, business, technology, science, trade, and broadcast media. It involves drafting, editing, and overseeing the distribution of press releases, media advisories, statements, talking points, FAQs, and executive messaging.
The Manager, Public Relations Strategy leads proactive media outreach strategies to secure coverage that highlights AccuWeather's Superior Accuracy™, innovation, thought leadership, AccuWeather For Business solutions, and the AccuWeather Network. It serves as the primary media contact, managing inbound inquiries and coordinating interviews with executives, meteorologists, and subject matter experts. The role partners cross-functionally to ensure message alignment and maximize media impact. It also manages communications during significant weather events and time-sensitive situations.
Additional responsibilities involve monitoring media coverage, analyzing results, and providing reporting and insights to leadership. The role supports executive visibility initiatives and thought leadership opportunities. It maintains organized media lists, press materials, messaging documents, and coverage archives. The Manager, Public Relations Strategy works with external PR agencies or vendors as needed. The role requires availability to work outside of normal business hours, including nights and weekends, based on company needs and events. It includes performing other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field. Candidates must bring 2-4+ years of progressive experience in media relations, public relations, or corporate communications. A proven track record of securing national and top-tier media coverage is essential. Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills are required. Experience serving as a spokesperson and managing media inquiries is necessary. A strong understanding of AP Style and media best practices is required. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, especially during high-profile weather events, is essential.
Preferred qualifications include experience in broadcast, science, technology, or weather-related communications. Familiarity with media monitoring and distribution tools is beneficial. Experience supporting executive communications and thought leadership platforms is also preferred. A background working with B2B and B2C brands helps in positioning solutions for diverse audiences.
Core skills and competencies include being a strategic thinker who can translate complex scientific and technical information into compelling media narratives. Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills are essential. Excellent organizational and project management abilities are required. Location for this role is State College, PA or New York, NY. Engagement involves working with reporters, editors, producers, and broadcast partners during major weather events. The base compensation for this role is a salary of 126800 USD.
Daily duties involve orchestrating daily media outreach to highlight Superior Accuracy and enterprise solutions for time-sensitive stories. The role sets the agenda with broadcast and science reporters so coverage reflects innovation and leadership during high-visibility moments. It coordinates executive interviews and spokesperson training to maintain consistent messaging across fast-moving weather news. Designing proactive story pitches that emphasize product milestones and research releases for trade and national outlets is a core function.
The role guards brand integrity by monitoring coverage and refining messaging after each major event or product launch. It partners with internal teams to align forecasts, warnings, and data stories with public relations and business objectives. Preparing clear talking points and FAQs that help journalists explain complex weather science to local communities is a standard task. Maintaining organized press materials, media lists, and archives ensures campaigns remain structured and easy to reference.
Evaluating results through coverage analysis and reporting insights that influence future strategic decisions is an ongoing responsibility.
