About the role
Zoox's accounting team plays a critical role in supporting the company's mission by providing accurate financial management, regulatory compliance, and strategic insights that guide decision-making at every level. Zoox is looking for a Senior Accounting Manager who can take ownership of key accounting processes and ensure that all financial records are maintained with the highest degree of accuracy and in full compliance with applicable standards. This individual will work hand-in-hand with the FP&A team to ensure that accruals are recorded correctly and that capitalization decisions are properly documented and reviewed. The role also encompasses responsibility for general ledger oversight, leading the month-end close cycle, and serving as a primary liaison during the annual financial audit, requiring a candidate who is trustworthy, detail-oriented, and genuinely customer-focused with clear communication skills.

What you'll do
Manage and oversee day-to-day accounting operations to ensure financial data remains accurate and complete across all records.
Collaborate with the FP&A team to prepare and verify accruals, ensuring they reflect the correct financial position each period.
Supervise capitalization activities, reviewing asset entries and ensuring compliance with established accounting policies and standards.
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, resolving any discrepancies or anomalies in a timely and thorough manner.
Lead the month-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
Coordinate with external auditors during the annual financial audit, providing requested documentation and supporting audit procedures.
Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, including GAAP, and stay current on any regulatory changes that may affect reporting.
Develop and refine accounting workflows and internal controls to improve efficiency and reduce the risk of errors.
Prepare detailed financial reports and analyses for leadership, translating complex accounting data into clear, actionable insights.
Serve as a point of contact for accounting-related questions from cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of accuracy and accountability.
Review and approve journal entries before posting, verifying that all entries are properly supported and categorized.
Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial packages for internal review and external reporting purposes.
Requirements
Proven experience in accounting with a strong understanding of general ledger management and month-end close processes.
Familiarity with accrual accounting and capitalization practices, including the ability to manage these activities independently.
Experience coordinating or supporting annual financial audits and working with external audit firms.
Solid knowledge of GAAP or other relevant accounting standards and the ability to apply them in practice.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
A detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy, reliability, and thoroughness in all work products.
The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required.
Experience with month-end and quarter-end close cycles in a corporate or public accounting setting is expected.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of work quality.

Experience with ERP systems or financial software platforms commonly used in corporate accounting environments.
Prior experience in a fast-growing or pre-IPO company where accounting processes were built or scaled from the ground up.
Knowledge of revenue recognition standards and their practical application in a technology or automotive context.
Experience mentoring or supervising junior accounting staff and contributing to team development.
Familiarity with SOX compliance requirements and the ability to support internal control testing activities.
Background in automotive or mobility technology companies, understanding the unique accounting challenges in these industries.
Skills & tools
Proficiency with general ledger systems and month-end close workflows is essential for this role.
Strong command of accrual and capitalization accounting principles and procedures is expected.
Ability to prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements with precision.
Familiarity with audit processes, including documentation requests, supporting schedules, and auditor inquiries.
Skill in communicating financial results and accounting concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience with internal control design and process improvement within an accounting function.
Working knowledge of financial reporting frameworks and the ability to apply them to real-world scenarios.
Practical notes
This role is based in Foster City, CA and is expected to be performed on-site at the Zoox office.
The Senior Accounting Manager will report to the accounting leadership team and work closely with FP&A and other finance stakeholders.
Candidates should be prepared to handle a high volume of tasks during close periods and audit seasons, requiring strong organizational and time management skills.
