About the role
You will architect and own the end to end calibration strategy for Zoox vehicles from factory build through field service. You will define the quality metrics that prove our sensors are accurate and reliable in the real world. You will build the testing regimes and diagnostics that catch drift before it becomes a safety issue. You will lead a team of calibration specialists and set the technical bar for how validation is done. You will translate high level vehicle requirements into precise sensor performance targets. You will partner with vehicle and systems engineering to ensure calibration methods keep pace with hardware changes. You will own the interface between our service depots and the central calibration platform. You will ensure that every vehicle leaving our facilities meets the strict accuracy required for safe autonomous operation.

What you'll do
Establish calibration procedures and validation test plans for lidar, radar, and camera sensors across factory, service depot, and online environments.
Design and implement system diagnostics that monitor sensor health, detect performance drift, and trigger corrective actions in the vehicle software stack.
Analyze complex multi sensor data sets to evaluate calibration accuracy and drive improvements in calibration algorithms and processes.
Define and maintain test methodologies that replicate diverse environmental conditions to verify sensor performance under stress.
Collaborate with vehicle engineering teams to ensure new hardware designs are compatible with existing calibration frameworks.
Partner with the field support team to translate real world vehicle data into actionable calibration updates and improvements.
Work with the operation team to minimize vehicle downtime while maximizing calibration throughput and reliability.
Coordinate closely with systems teams to align calibration metrics with overall vehicle safety and performance objectives.
Develop tools and interfaces that enable efficient calibration execution and reporting for both technical and non technical stakeholders.
Drive continuous improvement by reviewing calibration results, identifying root causes of errors, and implementing preventative measures.
Establish documentation and standard operating procedures that ensure calibration methods are repeatable and scalable.
Lead cross functional initiatives to resolve complex integration challenges between sensors and vehicle subsystems.
Mentor and develop the calibration team by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and fostering technical growth.
Act as the technical owner for sensor calibration across the entire vehicle lifecycle from prototype to production and service.
Requirements
You possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field such as electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline.
You have demonstrated experience developing and managing complex calibration processes for sensors or related systems.
You bring a strong background in lidar, radar, and camera technologies and how they are used in autonomous vehicles.
You have a proven track record of working with system diagnostics and data analysis to solve hard measurement problems.
You are experienced collaborating with cross functional teams in a fast paced, matrixed organization.
You have strong written and verbal communication skills and can explain technical concepts to both technical and non technical audiences.
You are comfortable working in an environment with evolving requirements and shifting priorities.
You are highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
Nice to have
Experience with robotics, mobility, or automotive systems is preferred.
Background in machine learning or data analysis relevant to sensor fusion is preferred.
Familiarity with Zoox vehicle hardware and software platforms is a plus.
Practical notes
This is a full time position based in Foster City, California.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship at this time.
The role may require occasional travel to service depots or cross site collaboration as needed.
