This role is a Senior Engineering Manager position within Platform Engineering. The position reports to the Senior Vice President of Engineering. The manager will own technical execution, architecture, roadmap, and delivery for one or more core platform domains. The role demands strong technical judgment and exceptional engineering leadership. The Senior Engineering Manager will drive complex initiatives across multiple engineering teams.
Platform Engineering delivers shared application primitives, services, and guardrails. These assets enable product engineering teams to build consistent, scalable, secure, and reliable applications across ZMP. The team's mission is to provide reusable platform capabilities. These capabilities must improve developer productivity while ensuring platform consistency, operational excellence, and long-term architectural sustainability.
The Senior Engineering Manager will own multiple core application platform domains. These domains include platform authentication and authorization. Account, organization, workspace, and tenant management are also included. The role covers notifications and messaging infrastructure. Shared application services and reusable platform primitives are included. Platform APIs, API Gateway, and extension mechanisms fall within scope. Common developer frameworks and platform tooling are part of the portfolio. Shared operational capabilities are also owned by this role.
The Senior Engineering Manager is accountable for architecture, implementation, operational excellence, and adoption across these platform domains. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring active involvement in architecture and design reviews. The manager will participate in technical decision-making and production operations. They will develop engineers and technical leads. The role focuses on delivering reliable platform capabilities at scale.
Key responsibilities include leading the architecture and technical direction for assigned platform domains. The manager will translate platform strategy into executable engineering roadmaps. They will drive technical design for shared services, APIs, schemas, and reusable platform capabilities. Design reviews will be conducted to ensure alignment with platform architecture and engineering standards.
The manager will identify scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability risks. They will champion reusable solutions. The role requires eliminating unnecessary duplication across product teams. Guidance on migrations, versioning, and adoption of platform capabilities is essential.
Engineering leadership duties involve building and leading a high-performing team of platform engineers and technical leads. Platform delivery responsibilities include setting technical direction while balancing product urgency and long-term stability. The manager will establish reusable services and APIs. The manager will guide platform adoption across product teams. They will remove blockers and ensure coherent migration plans over time. Designs and code will be reviewed with engineers. Requirements include deep experience owning platform architecture across multiple services and teams inside complex systems. Strong engineering leadership must be demonstrated. The manager will mentor staff engineers and drive technical standards across groups.
Understanding authentication, authorization, tenant models, APIs, and operational workflows in large distributed applications is mandatory. The ability to balance delivery speed with reliability is essential. Managing technical debt while maintaining strategic focus is required.
