About the role
The function supports real-time energy market analytics used by over 1,000 market participants. This position is responsible for providing expert legal guidance on commercial agreements that underpin the company's analytics and data offerings. The role requires a strategic partner mindset to enable business growth while protecting the company from legal risk. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of commercial contracting specific to energy and data markets. This includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex agreements that define how clients access and use critical market information. You will act as the primary legal voice ensuring that commercial terms align with product capabilities and revenue objectives. The position demands a high level of judgment to navigate nuanced commercial and regulatory issues in fast-moving markets. You will be instrumental in building the legal infrastructure that scales with the business.

What you'll do
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts for SaaS, licensing, and data services agreements.
Own the development and maintenance of contract templates, playbooks, and standardized clauses for energy and software markets.
Partner with Sales, Revenue Operations, and Finance to design contracting workflows that improve speed to close.
Evaluate and mitigate legal risks in customer-facing agreements while supporting deal momentum.
Implement contract lifecycle management (CLM) processes and optimize the use of legal technology tools.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure commercial terms reflect business strategy and operational constraints.
Lead the creation of order forms, master services agreements, and subscription terms specific to data analytics products.
Mentor contract administrators and paralegals to improve team efficiency and document quality.
Investigate and apply best practices for data privacy compliance within commercial contracts involving customer data.
Support the standardization of contracting across the portfolio following acquisitions and integrations.
Analyze commercial trends and contracting issues to provide actionable insights to revenue leadership.
Represent the legal function in discussions with customers, vendors, and internal decision-makers.
Contribute to the creation of legal operating metrics to track contract volume, cycle time, and risk indicators.
Ensure all commercial documents comply with applicable regulations and internal governance policies.
Requirements
The posting states a bachelor's degree requirement. J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
5+ years of experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts in SaaS, technology, or data-driven businesses.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and handle a high volume of contracts in a fast-paced environment.
Experience negotiating customer-facing commercial agreements such as SaaS subscriptions, licensing agreements, MSAs, and order forms.
Experience working cross-functionally with Sales, Revenue Operations, Finance, and other business stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience building or improving contracting processes, templates, playbooks, and contract lifecycle workflows.
Experience with contract lifecycle management (CLM) platforms and legal technology.
Experience managing or mentoring contract administrators, paralegals, or other legal professionals.
Familiarity with data privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and related state privacy laws as they relate to commercial contracts.
Experience supporting a high-growth, private equity-backed, or post-acquisition organization.
Experience in the energy, utilities, software, or power markets industry is preferred.
