About the role
You will serve as a high-level subject matter expert and strategic lead responsible for developing asset-level forecasts for the North American electric grid. In this capacity, you will own the deep analysis of power market fundamentals and regulatory shifts that influence renewable, thermal, and transmission assets. You will lead complex modeling projects while simultaneously shaping the methodology and technical standards that drive our data platform forward. The role requires you to translate intricate grid dynamics into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders. You will act as a primary resource for explaining market models and scenarios to clients and internal success teams. This position offers the opportunity to directly influence how real-time trading and mid-to-long-term investment decisions are formed. The work is challenging and purpose-driven, focusing on keeping utility prices low while supporting the energy transition.

What you'll do
Develop Grid Models by building and maintaining forecasts of the North American electric grid using in-house tools and proprietary procedures.
Monitor Market trends in renewable energy, battery storage, energy policy, and the retirement of conventional generation to anticipate future grid conditions.
Automate Data processes by leveraging technical skills to automate the ingestion of input datasets and the analysis of model results.
Plan and execute Benchmarking & Testing initiatives to assess model accuracy and drive continuous improvement in future modeling efforts.
Analyze quantitative data from external US power grid sources spanning environmental, financial, and operational metrics.
Collaborate with clients as a subject matter expert to explain market models and scenarios to clients and success teams effectively.
Own the evolution of your models over time to ensure they adapt to shifting market fundamentals and regulatory landscapes.
Evaluate simulation outputs to refine assumptions and improve the reliability of long-term forecasts.
Synthesize complex findings into clear narratives that support decision-making across engineering, trading, and investment functions.
Champion best practices by mentoring junior analysts on data standards, modeling techniques, and quality assurance.
Engage in continuous learning to stay ahead of emerging technologies, market designs, and energy policy changes.
Partner with cross-functional teams to align modeling strategies with broader product and business objectives.
Validate data integrity and ensure consistency across datasets used in large-scale grid modeling exercises.
Contribute to the technical documentation that supports the maintenance and enhancement of core modeling frameworks.
Requirements
Hold a Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or another quantitative field as a non-negotiable baseline for this role.
Demonstrate strong data analysis skills with hands-on experience using Python, R, or similar languages for statistical and modeling tasks.
Possess a foundational knowledge of North American power market fundamentals and regulatory trends that drive market behavior.
Show an academic understanding of optimization modeling, including constraints and shadow pricing, and its application in grid contexts.
Exhibit a basic understanding of elementary finance concepts, including net present value (NPV) calculations and discounting principles.
Communicate complex technical findings clearly and adjust your messaging for diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where priorities evolve and problem-solving is iterative.
Apply advanced analytical reasoning to interpret large, complex datasets and extract meaningful signals.
Maintain a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail when working with critical grid and market data.

Work effectively in a hybrid setting, with a requirement to be in the Boston Newton office two days per week.

Nice to have
Possess an Advanced Degree such as a Master's or PhD in engineering, mathematics, or economics.
Have prior simulation expertise with power system models like EnCompass, ENELYTIX, AURORA, PLEXOS, or PROMOD.
Bring industry experience from previous roles in power markets or renewable energy sectors.
Maintain deep knowledge of ISO/RTO market data, including pricing mechanisms and congestion patterns.
Show technical execution skills in econometrics, statistics, and data manipulation using SQL or Python.
Apply structured thinking to break down complex grid challenges and propose viable solutions.
Demonstrate systems thinking by understanding how data, technology, and market processes interact across the energy grid.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in Newton, Massachusetts, United States.
The engagement model is hybrid, requiring 2 days of in-office presence per week.
Travel requirements include occasional travel as needed for client or team collaboration.
