Senior Design System and Product Designer | Operational Journey
Job description
About the role
You own the end-to-end design of the merchant lifecycle, covering onboarding, activation, and ongoing user journeys where consistency and reusability are as critical as any single screen. You are responsible for elevating the craft of product design in a heavily regulated space, ensuring that complexity feels simple and coherent to the user. This role requires you to balance strict compliance demands with the need for clarity, efficiency, and delight in operational workflows. You will serve as the primary design owner for a critical domain, shaping how thousands of businesses interact with payments, KYC, and lifecycle management. You will diagnose existing patterns and create a unified design system that prevents drift and rework across future products. In this position, you mentor other designers and establish standards that outlast any single project or initiative. Your work will directly influence trust, reliability, and scalability in how Xendit serves its customers across Southeast Asia.
Key facts
What you'll do
Conduct deep product design work within the Operational Journey cluster, focusing on onboarding, dashboard experiences, and KYC-heavy lifecycle flows while balancing clarity with compliance requirements.
Diagnose the current state of the design system, analyze its strengths and weaknesses, and consolidate it into a clear, documented foundation that the entire team can rely on.
Establish tokens, patterns, and standards that ensure visual and behavioral consistency across the merchant lifecycle and related surfaces.
Set the quality bar for design decisions in areas without a dedicated designer, guiding the developer-experience surface through standards, critique, and collaboration rather than producing every screen yourself.
Mentor other designers on the team, raising the overall craft of product design when needed and fostering a culture of thoughtful, system-based design.
Translate complex regulatory and compliance requirements into clear, usable design patterns that protect both the user and the business.
Work closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to validate findings and ensure design decisions are grounded in real user needs and data.
Own the design narrative for your domain, articulating rationale, trade-offs, and long-term vision to influence outcomes across cross-functional teams.
Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term system health, shifting focus between product execution and system consolidation as the foundation matures.
Champion a culture of candid critique and evidence-based design, using insights to continuously refine flows, components, and standards.
Ensure that the design system supports scalability, enabling new features and surfaces to be built quickly and consistently without sacrificing quality.
Act as the operational design leader from day one, setting direction early and then rebalancing effort toward product work once the system is stable.
Use structured thinking to break down large, complex problems into manageable design components that can be reused and extended over time.
Maintain a strong focus on the merchant experience, making sure that even the most intricate flows remain understandable, efficient, and trustworthy.
Requirements
Bring product design craft as your first and foremost qualification, demonstrated through a portfolio that shows depth in complex flows made simple and decisions grounded in user problems rather than decoration.
Show systems thinking by demonstrating experience with reusable components, tokens, and patterns, with rigor around consistency, versioning, and how others will consume what you build.
Prove fluency in the discipline of disclosure, where design communicates required information in regulated contexts so users genuinely understand critical details.
Have the ability to work within a heavily regulated industry, reconciling compliance requirements with usability and clarity in operational journeys.
Exhibit strong ownership, setting standards and guiding design decisions across domains that may not yet have dedicated designers.
Communicate effectively in a direct, candid manner, using critique and evidence to drive alignment and improve outcomes.
Be comfortable working in a fast-growth environment where responsibilities evolve quickly and you must balance system building with product delivery.
