Drinking Water Project Manager

About the role

You will own the end to end management of diverse drinking water projects for municipal clients, balancing technical depth with clear communication and proactive problem solving. You will act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring their expectations are managed, concerns are addressed promptly, and project outcomes align with their strategic goals. This role gives you direct responsibility for planning, coordinating, and delivering projects that impact public health and community well being in meaningful ways. You will leverage your engineering judgment to guide project teams through complex technical decisions while maintaining a sharp focus on timelines, budgets, and quality. You will collaborate closely with our Technical Manager and cross functional teams to integrate design, construction, and operations insights into practical solutions. This position empowers you to grow your leadership skills by managing client relationships, mentoring junior staff, and driving continuous improvement in project execution. You will contribute to the firm's reputation for reliable, innovative water solutions by translating challenging requirements into well organized project plans and clear deliverables.

What you'll do

Coordinate and schedule project activities across multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely delivery of drinking water solutions for municipal clients.

Develop detailed project scopes and work plans that clarify roles, responsibilities, and deliverables for consultants, contractors, and internal staff.

Lead client meetings and presentations, translating technical information into clear options and recommendations that support informed decision making.

Perform hands on evaluation of existing drinking water systems, identifying constraints, risks, and opportunities for treatment or distribution improvements.

Prepare cost estimates and budget reviews, working with our teams to align project resources with client expectations and financial parameters.

Support business development by contributing to proposals, responses to requests for proposals, and technical narratives that highlight our capabilities.

Monitor project progress through regular status reviews, managing documents, schedules, and issues to keep projects on track and within budget.

Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards, coordinating with regulators and technical reviewers as required for project approvals.

Facilitate collaboration between our engineers, scientists, and design professionals to maintain a cohesive approach across project deliverables.

Act as a liaison between on site teams and corporate support, escalating critical issues and ensuring that client commitments are honored.

Requirements

You must be a Professional Engineer with demonstrated experience in drinking water systems, including treatment and distribution.

You should possess a Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, with a strong technical foundation in water supply and infrastructure.

You must have the ability to evaluate complex technical information and translate it into actionable project plans for municipal stakeholders.

You should be comfortable working in a client facing role, representing Woodard & Curran with professionalism and integrity.

You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling you to prepare clear reports and lead productive meetings.

You should demonstrate strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet firm deadlines.

You must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship, as we are unable to provide work authorization at this time.

You should be willing to travel up to 20 percent to client sites across New England, including Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, as well as the Tampa and Los Angeles regions.

You must be comfortable using standard project management tools, document preparation platforms, and technical software relevant to water engineering.

Nice to have

Prior experience with master planning, treatment processes, and distribution systems for drinking water is preferred.

Experience supporting marketing and proposal efforts, including technical writing and solution framing, is valued.

Familiarity with regulatory processes and agencies in the New England, Florida, and California regions is a plus.

Experience working in a collaborative, multi disciplinary team environment that spans remote and in office settings.

Practical notes

This is a full time position with a flexible remote hybrid schedule, expecting 2 to 3 days in the office or onsite with clients.

Travel is expected up to 20 percent within the specified regions, including New England, Tampa, and Los Angeles.
